A review of some previous material on energy was given with an in-depth explanation of energy. The lesson consisted of the relationships between energy and wave dynamics, vibration, frequency, the cyclic nature of time, and the period of orbits.
A review of the previous material was given and then 3.3-3.5 was covered. The lesson consisted of reviewing points, lines, segments, intersections, planes and different types of angles, as well as similar constructions in different dimensions of space.
I gave Samatha her copy of the test on polynomial expressions and equations which consisted of 15 questions about the construction of polynomials from their solutions, solving polynomial equations, using the rational root theorem, and dividing polynomials by binomials with synthetic division. Sam didn't finish the test so she will have to continue after Thanksgiving break. There was no assignment.

Lesson Comments
Samantha was really focused on her test. She enjoys math work.
Today, Sam and I were talking about vocabulary for everyday activities in Spanish. Many of the words are very useful when describing daily routines. In this lesson, we discuss things that people do regularly through a list of common daily routine activities in Spanish. I introduced a PowerPoint lesson (included lots of examples to see the new vocabulary in use) to Sam for everyday activities and routines. Sam was able to listen, speak, read and write about Daily activities during our Spanish Class. My Learning Objectives upon completion of this lesson for Sam was to be able to:
• identify Spanish vocabulary words for daily activities and routines...
• correctly use Spanish vocabulary words for daily activities and routines, during real-life conversations...
Vocabulary: despertarse, levantarse, lavarse la cara, cepillarse lose dientes, ducharse, vestirse and more.
In conjunction with Sam's reading assignment , we reviewed the limitations on First Amendment freedoms by discussing specific examples.Limitations on free speech include the law of defamation. Sam took notes on the difficulty for public figures to recover for defamation . We further reviewed restrictions on freedom of assembly and religion by discussing actions available against protestors at funerals of deceased gay servicemen and against protestors outside a business. Last, we discussed how free speech includes flag burning and other symbols. We also looked at the holdings of three US Supreme Court cases restricting free speech rights of public high school students. I handed back Sam's test ,and she made the necessary corrections addressing the "Elastic Clause and the Supremacy Clause".For homework due after the Thanksgiving break, I assigned reading pages 134- 146 and a summary of the Dred Scott decision and answering 4 questions on pages 139 and 145.
Practice Test and additional review problems on polynomials
Lesson Outline
Samantha worked on the practice test and was able to finish it. We then did some additional review problems that I felt needed some extra attention before the test. I gave her problems on fourth degree equations in quadratic form and as differences of squares. She will start her test tomorrow.

Lesson Comments
Samantha was able to do the rest of the practice test without much difficulty and was also prepared to do the extra review problems.
During the first part of the session, Sam continued studying for the exam and making a study outline. Sam then took the test on the structure and principles of the constitution. We then began a study of the first amendment and the five civil liberties protected by the first amendment. I emphasized ,and we discussed that the protections in the Bill of Rights are only against actions by the government and that therefore in any Bill of Rights analysis the first step is to determine if the policy or action in question involves government action as opposed to action by a private entity or citizen. We then discussed and reviewed the establishment clause, and what is meant by separation of church and state . Last, I highlighted that none of the civil liberties is unlimited and began a review of the law of defamation as it impacts the right of free speech. For homework ,Sam is to read the material in the text on the first amendment, pages 128-132 ,and to answer questions 2-4 on page 132.
I guided Samantha through the textbook version of the chapter test and then worked with her on problems from my version of the practice test on polynomials. The problems represented the topics of factoring and solving polynomials, building polynomials from their solutions, synthetic division, and using the rational root theorem. We almost finished the practice test. There was no assignment.

Samantha is a very accomplished math student when she is focused.
In preparation for tomorrow's test on government structure and constitutional principles, today we reviewed the structure of government, the functions of each branch, checks and balances, and critical provisions of the constitution such as the elastic clause, and the supremacy clause. Sam took notes and created a study guide based on the review. Sam did not do the assigned homework on the Bill of Rights . For homework,Sam is to study for the test .
