Christopher was distracted during our session because of a conflict with a friend. He wanted to return to the peer's room to discuss further but he was rejected. We discussed what was in his control at the moment and some different ways he could address it. He liked one of the ideas of "doing something nice" later and he said he would try that. Having a solution for the moment gave him some relief from the worry so he was able to socialize and connect with his peers at lunch. He has shown some maturity and growth with his ability to "think about others" when he's not in a heightened state of emotion. A younger friend was being picked on a bit and he stood up for him and was advocating for him. He was very proud when he received praise from the adults who observed his kindness and thoughtfulness.

Richard was excited to receive an early birthday present -his shark boomerang. He was frustrated that it was "not working" so we read and discussed the instructions. With different techniques and practice, he finally got the hang of the boomerang throw and how to get the return. It was challenging but it was an opportunity to discuss the practice and how practice leads to progress. He often wants to move on from speech practice but we discuss how the practice is necessary to master the sounds. To reduce his frustration, we switched up the activities to keep him engaged and motivated. He always regroups. During recess (not our scheduled session), he was excited to share the boomerang with his peers. Some were not being respectful of it and with coaching, Richard was able to advocate for himself and express his feelings. He told them "I want to share it with you but please don't lose or break it." That was progress for the sweet guy who often wants to please his peers and not stand up for himself.

Richard was in a great mood and excited for the countdown to his birthday. He wore a post it note with the number of days left until his birthday. During recess, Richard was having a hard time participating in the game. The group was changing the rules of the tag/dodgeball type of game. Richard got frustrated and with some coaching, advocated for himself and said he would find something else to play. With a peer, we brainstormed other fun games to play during recess. Richard said he always wanted a boomerang so we researched and discussed best option for a boomerang. It was a great exercise in problem solving, self advocating, speech practice, gathering information, and making decisions.

Marcel was motivated to practice since we have reduced frequency from 2x/week to 1x/week. He understands that the rate of progress might be affected by the infrequent sessions and inconsistent home practice. He is motivated when in session and is able to produce /R/ in all positions in word with 75% accuracy. It was discussed what is necessary to get his accuracy in words and sentences to the next level. Marcel said he would try his best to practice more.

He was able to call attention and request assistance with increased form ("Lynne, help me +action ") spontaneously 8/10 times this session ! He continues to encode "where (is) noun?" within contextual sabotage tasks with increased frequency 8/12, 4/12 given carrier cue. Chris arrived this morning with a happy demeanor. He entered rapidly, and was eager to show off his new rock band sweatshirt. His new found interest in classic rock music and participation in the School of Rock is an excellent foundation and springboard for novel conversation. His response to the knowledge that has been shared by me within this context has been motivational. He expressed surprise at the scope of information I had regarding classic rock music. Conversational expansion was strong with increased cycles of reciprocity noted. Strong focus remains on expansion of speaker listener exchange with the provision of contingent comment and questions.
Sustained topic and appropriate shifting continues to be supported with scaffolding and cues. Use of cohesive ties continues to be a strong focus as well, while encompassing the dynamics of presupposition and aspects of perspective taking, Attentional supports remain strong as well.
Stronger session today.

Chris was seen in the office this morning following clearance from the health dept. Chris expressed that he was "happy to be here." Numerous prompts were provided in order to facilitate conversational exchange. Many of Chris' responses to comments were brief this morning, and numerous scaffolding strategies were utilized to facilitate expanded conversational exchange. Chris was consistently responsive, however, it was noted that as he would briefly respond, and subsequently begin to share increased detail/information following cue supports, he would then abandon the exchange, and share statements such as "never mind," or it's not important." He was clearly distracted today, and shared that he had a "rough weekend." He did not elaborate however.
Subsequent categorical inclusion / exclusion tasks were presented, with Chris engaging briefly, and then requesting colored pencils so that he could draw. A collaborative "directive ' coloring activity was successful as language expansion topics were embedded. Supports for cohesion, detail and temporal links were provided.

Chris was seen virtually this morning as per protocol. He seems to be feeling better, although a residual cough remains. He has rearranged his room a bit, with the computer now on the opposite wall, and his seating no longer optimal as his face falls below the screen. This was discussed and he re- seated himself a few times, but utilized the bed quite a bit as well. Conversation was strongly facilitated today, numerous comments scaffolding strategies and direct questioning were utilized. Chris engaged with variable motivation that fluctuated greatly from high interest, sustained exchanges to minimal responsiveness. Expansion within high motivational topics was enhanced through use of familiar scaffolding strategies, and use of supports to expand vocabulary, and cohesiveness. As the session progressed, distraction grew stronger, his cough while eating breakfast added to this decreased engagement. Best to close the session a few minutes ahead of schedule this morning.
