Today concluded the fall term. Abby and I spent the time reviewing the material covered from the beginning to date. Topics from Child Development, Personality, Social Psych and Industrial Organization Psychology were covered. We reviewed a few mock personality inventory tests and discussed the differences in format and their outcomes for assessment. We concluded the session with a look ahead and topics to be covered in 2020.

Abby joined the class following her assignment with Amy for college class prep. We spent the time reviewing the material covered from the beginning of the term through the last class. Topics included a review of child development, social psychology, personality psychology and industrial organizational psychology. We reviewed different personality inventories and identified their differences in questions and outcomes for assessment. We concluded the session with a look ahead and reviewing topics to be covered in 2020. Great work this term!
Today we began discussing Industrial and Organizational Psychology. We identified parts for each of the elements and the work of psychologist in the field. Four major areas of work are, academia, government, business, and consulting. Most psychologists have either a Master's degree or doctorate. Much of their work is in research, and evaluation. This field originated in the early 20th century. Prominent psychologists in the field are James Cattell, Hugo Munsterberg, Walter Dill Scott, and Lillian Gilbreth to name a few.

Productive session. We began exploring the elements of Industrial and Organizational Psychology and the criteria for the psychologist. I explained psychologist are usually not practicing therapist in the sense of therapy but rather academia, government, businesses, and consulting firms. Abby was able to break down the terms and provide examples.
Today we reviewed previous topics to jump start the session following the week break. For the next few weeks we will focus on Industrial Organizational Psychology. Vocabulary for this section includes Hawthrone Effect, human factors psychology, industrial psychology and organizational psychology. Suggestions for this section include touring the school and identifying particular items that relate to the topic, researching online other factors and conducting an informal survey.

Abby was engaged and contributed greatly to the discussion today. We spent the first few minutes of class discussing Thanksgiving and her interaction with her young family members. Specifically, the differences between the 1 1/2 and 4 year olds. We identified development behaviors and discussed how it feels to see the behaviors versus having only read them from the textbook. We discussed for the next few weeks we will spend time reviewing and exploring the field of industrial organizational psychology.
Today we concluded the with the topic of social psychology. We reviewed the terms and further explored the individualist and collectivistic elements. We also discussed the dog Piglet featured on the nightly news and how it as a current affair fit into this area of psychology as well as personality. We closed the class with a five question quiz and four discussion questions.

She was able to elaborate on situations that she has had and how her behavior was impacted. She also explained terms using her interests/following of the Georgia Bull Dogs. This class we wrapped up the child development topic and reviewed the material to begin next week, social psychology. We talked openly about the subject and what our initial thought on the subject looked like. This was a short class, 30 min.

Today we opened the session with a mock quiz to assess pre-knowledge of social psychology. This was used as a starting point for the new material for the week. What we found is many of the terms can be defined based on their prefix. We introduced new vocabulary, how sociology differs from psychology but yet shares many of the same research purposes. We discussed the self serving-bias and examples.

Today we opened the session with a mock quiz for social psychology. We defined social psychology, and compared and contrasted sociology and psychology. We identified factors inherent in situational versus dispositional influences on behavior. Other topics include presentation, attitudes and persuasions, conformity and compliance.
Today we further discussed social psychology and the topics at both the intra and interpersonal levels. We reviewed the individualistic culture and collectivistic culture. We read examples that explain both. We reviewed the definitions for actor-observer bias, attribution, disposition, fundamental attribution error, just-world hypothesis, self-serving bias. We listed examples to bring to real life the vocabulary.
