Katya completed art work in class as Ms Jackson provided information about introduction to psychology class and upcoming work. Katya processed coming back to school and moving forward to college.
Today we concluded with consumer psychology and transitioned into Marketing and Psychology. We identified the differences between the consumer side and market side. We discussed marketing and three points standard/major points to marketing: investing in advertising dollars, creative energy and time into targeted messages meant to trigger an emotional response. With these three elements we looked at what their expected outcome/hope is: improve sentiments of their brand, convince new audiences, and encourage existing customers to complete repeat purchases. From this we moved to discussing and working to create a faux product and using these points. Additionally, we included key words to consider with our product, target audience, reaching the audience, price points, exclusivity and high profile people to promote the brand and influence audience.

GREAT SESSION today. Abby was 100% engaged for the entire class, displayed enthusiasm for the material and appears to enjoy the content and working on the "faux" product.
We continued today with discussing consumer psychology. I asked Abby to think of a recent purchase she had made and was disappointed, or dissatisfied with and how she went about returning the product or voicing her opinion? This lead us into how unhappy consumers tell more people by 50% of their dissatisfaction than customers that are satisfied. We used Maslow's theory with respect to what motivates us to buy and how we decided on what to buy. According to Maslow our basic needs are the first to be met with food, water, and shelter. Using these three elements we discussed how do we decided what to buy to meet these needs. Abby was asked to think about whether these purchases are based on money, trend, brand or family? Perhaps, a combination? This session included a review of consumer psychologists and their credentials, and research they conduct. I introduced the topic Marketing and Psychology to transition into the way marketers use psychology to create and promote their products. Next session we will pick up with marketing and how it applies to psychology.

Fun session today with Abby. Engaged for the full class, contributed with examples, questions and added to the discussion with her thoughts on the subject. She demonstrated an understanding of Maslow's theory and how it relates to consumer psychology from the consumer perspective by explaining why the basic needs had to be met without respect to brand, or trend. Good work!
Today we continued with consumer psychology. We explored "Why do people shop/make purchases?" and "How do people make purchases/shop?" We discussed how Maslow's Hierarchy applies to consumer psychology, specifically around the basic needs for food/water and shelter. Abby was asked to think about shopping without the internet which isn't something she is familiar. I provided stats comparing male and female shoppers, their use of the internet, online reviews, and preferences for shopping.

We brought forward Maslow's Hierarchy and shopping to fulfill the basic needs: food/water and shelter. Abby was asked to provide examples for what it may have been like to shop before the internet. She was engaged and stayed on topic throughout the class. Good session!
This was our first session following the winter break. We spent a few minutes with open discussion, revisiting the material covered in the fall term and reviewing topics for the spring term. In this session we also spent time writing about the future. Prior to reading this entry we read the entry written in the last class for the fall term which included topics for an accomplishment for the year, something you are looking forward to, and something that has changed for you. It was fun and encouraging to learn what Abby shared.

Today we closed out the fall term with an oral quiz reviewing the topics covered which included, Personality, Child Development, and Industrial Organizational Psychology. We reviewed Abby's answers and with each we briefly discussed. Following the quiz, we transitioned to consumer psychology.
