Zeta was instructed to go to the singer page of her website, open the page editor and search for images that we could use as cover photos. The videos would be featured on her site. Once Zeta found the images that she wanted to use, we each took three images to resize and upload to the webpage.
Zeta was instructed to go to her webpage, open the page editor, and go to Youtube to find links for the six videos featured on her page. Zeta linked all of the videos to the page, tested each link for functionality, and saved her work.
Zeta has done well learning to type. Practice over the summer to retain the skill and muscle memory of keyboarding would be very beneficial. Zeta enjoyed completing a word search and a word scramble with words associated with summer. She has expressed interest in what it was really like to grow up on Alcatraz. We watched the video, 'Children who Grew Up on Alcatraz recount Life on Prison Island'. We ended the hour recounting the books we read together, some of the activities she did in and for class and saying our goodbyes. Zeta has been a joy to teach. I wish her the best.
Zeta and I spent our last lesson together playing our favorite game Farkle. We each had six dice, taking turns rolling and tallying our scores. Zeta was excited to end the year with a win!! We discussed her summer math packet for the next school year and where to find tutorials and help if needed.
For her second meeting with Doreen, Zeta asked follow-up questions and was able to get the answers allowing her to complete her worksheet. This was a really good session where both Zeta and Doreen were able to see that learning a foreign language could be useful and fun. It was also a bitter sweet feeling since I also had to say goodbye to Zeta for our last session. Zeta has been a great student, always showing enthusiasm and willingness to learn. As a student of French, she is very quick at picking up new vocabulary and very good with pronunciation. I hope she will continue to study French and I wish her all the best!
This morning we completed our final science class for the academic year with a review of the topics covered over the semester. Zeta shared her opinion of which topics and activities she liked the best (popsicle stick kinetic activity) and least (working in the textbook). We also concluded our mini-lesson on the arctic biome and animals with a look into the characteristics of glaciers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnlPrdMoQ1Y. To end the session, Zeta selected a video to watch and discuss: How to make your hands waterproof with Mark Rober: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00aZJP4kmK4
This afternoon we completed an animal/biome spotlight lesson on the Arctic. Zeta selected this topic and asked specifically to learn more about the walrus. We discussed the adaptations of Arctic dwelling animals and Zeta provided specific examples. She also completed a learning activity to practice vocabulary such as biome, adaptation, boreal, and hibernation. We watched a couple short videos during today's lesson to see examples of different Arctic animals.
