Lesson Topic
phonics and sight words
Lesson Outline
We continue to work on the y sound and w sound. Given pictures, Indigo either glued them on the y side of the page, the w side of the page or threw them away if they did not have the initial sound of either the y or the w. She easily cirled all the cherries that had the word 'on' printed on them. She enjoyed a color by sight word page.

Given a set of four pictures, Indigo did well identifying the picture with a subtle difference. She enjoyed practicing writing her sight words by writing rainbow words (going over the same word with 5 different colors). Indigo was taught how to word chunk with the -at family. Given a picture and the letters 'at', she was able to write the first sound of the picture. Additionally, she enjoyed a word search with -at family words.

Lesson Outline
Phonics' focus was on the sounds of letters y and w. Indigo matched the letter to the picture with that initial sound. She also wrote the letter that named the initial sound of the picture. Indigo did well matching the picture with the -at word it named. She enjoyed finding the -at words in a grid that named the pictures. We went over the sight words. The word 'on' was reinforced by putting a flashcard with the word 'on' on various things in the room. Indigo enjoyed a game on the computer that exercised her eye-hand coordination. She did well anticipating where the bouncing bear might fall and moving the trampoline to the spot to prevent the bear from hitting ground.

Lesson Outline
We went over Indigo's sight words. A short activity was done with most words for reinforcement. Indigo was tasked with tracing curvey and angular lines from the letter y to the picture whose names begins with the y sound. She esily drew lines from a picture of yarn to all the Y and y(s) on the page. Indigo enjoyed solving riddles and figuring out what picture (with the initial sound of y) the riddle was describing. She, then, listened to the directions of how to identify the picture.
