The class began with a review and discussion of relevant news events. Among the topics discussed were impeachment inquiry, the Syrian/Turkish/Kurdish developments, and the emolument issues. We then began a brief introduction of Chapter 5, Civil Rights. GT spent the remaining time working on his term project.
GT started exploring climate zones and biomes. We watched and discussed videos on rainforest biomes, grasslands, and monsoons. We related their locations to climate zones, and discussed the ways in which climate is the product of geography, including mountain ranges and ocean currents in addition to latitude.
GT took his ecology test and got a 95%! We then discussed the difference between tame vs domesticated animals, wild vs feral animals. We discussed the usefulness of looking at artificial selection in understanding natural selection.
Introduction to Shakespeare and Sadlier Vocabulary
Lesson Outline
GT and I finished watching "The Life of Shakespeare " video. We also discussed some of the interesting parts about his Shakespeare's life. We discussed the conspiracy theory associated with the Bard. We talked about iambic pentameter. I showed GT examples of the meter Shakespeare writes. We then completed the vocabulary activities for the first review section of his book. GT did quite well.
We watched a video about the affects of biomagnification in the food chain and other pollutants and how they are affecting the lives of the Inuit in the Arctic. We reviewed GT's ecology homework on populations. We then watched a video on biomes and had discussions about many aspects- how to define them, the climate zones, the types of plants and animals, limiting factors, etc.
GT turned in his analytical essay in correct MLA format. We then began watching a video on the life of William Shakespeare. We stop and discuss interesting facts as they appear on the video. We also talked about the sites shown on the video since GT has been to England this past summer.
Sadlier vocabulary and Brief introduction to JULIUS CAESAR
Lesson Outline
GT and I began doing the review activities for units 1-3 in the vocabulary book. GT did quite well with the activities. We then did a brief introduction to Shakespeare's JULIUS CAESAR. We will begin the introduction to Shakespeare himself tomorrow. GT will finalize his analytical essay and turn it in to be graded for homework.
