THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME/SADLIER VOCABULARY
Lesson Outline
GT and I discussed the vocabulary activities that he completed on his own last week. We discussed and I provided support with the one activity that he struggled a little with; for the most part, he did quite well. We then watched a TED talk by Rosie King an autistic teenager as an introduction to the novel. We read an interview with the author about his novel. We then began our study of the novel. Ironically, GT shared that he saw the play of this novel at the Kravis Center last year. He is anxious to read the novel. He volunteered to read some for homework today.
We began the lesson with a review and discussion of an official Democratic Party survey. Sections II and III were reviewed and discussed. Each of the multiple items were discussed at length in the context of the possible political bias of the items and possible purposes of conducting such a survey. While this lesson segment was intended to use only a portion of the class, GT's interest and enthusiasm prompted a longer discussion. GT effectively connected the discussion points to information with the concepts and terms presented in Chapter 1 of the text.

Lesson Comments
A great lesson! GT's enthusiasm and knowledge are exceptional.
Today we went over and discussed most of the Practice of Science learning goal scale. We discussed some forms of scientific investigation that do not involve experimentation, including research, observation, and meta-analysis. We looked at the order of the scientific method, and specifically when the hypothesis should be generated. GT was easily able to demonstrate that he can identify independent, dependent, and controlled variables in an experiment, and, on his own, linked the idea of controlling variables to that of reducing experimental bias. :) We discussed uncontrolled (uncontrollable) variables and how scientists address them. We discussed and watched a video on placebos.

In this activity, we continued our work with function transformations. We used four parent functions to demonstrate the three basic transformations. GT was given a function and he had to graph the function without the aid of a graphing calculator. He was then given a graph and had to determine the function identifying all transformations.
The lesson began with a brief review and discussion of current news stories. We began our study of the Constitution with a lengthy review and discussion of the historical origins of the U.S. government. We spent the second half of the lesson discussing the Articles of Confederation. GT was fully engaged and interested.

We began the class with a review and discussion of current news stories. Next, we reviewed the various forms of government by identifying specific examples of several forms found around the world. We then reviewed the terms and concepts from Chapter 1. We ended the lesson with an introduction of Chapter 2, The Constitution. GT continues to be involved and interested.
We began with a brief review and discussion of some current news stories. Forms of government was the next topic. Seventeen different forms of government were presented and discussed. GT was very knowledgeable about the characteristics of most of the forms presented. We then began Chapter 1 of the text. We focused primarily on how politics drives democracy. Several other concepts were reviewed and discussed. GT was fully involved and demonstrated a clear understanding of the terms and concepts.
