TEAMS: Taxonomy / Animals - Worms
GT was quizzed on taxonomy up to the Animal Kingdom. We reviewed the sub-kingdoms of vertebrate and invertebrate animals. We also discussed what we learned last week about sponges and cnidarians. We talked about the glass-like tissue of the sponge, which is only digestible by two species. We talked about the cnidoblasts (stingers) of jellies, corals and anemones; sharing stories of our own adventures with these creatures in the wild. I then introduced GT to the nudibranch, a tiny dragon-like creature of great beauty and a flatworm. We examined many varieties online. We then watched a ‘Shape of Life’ video illustrating the internal structures of the flat worm. Flat worms were the first to have bilateral symmetry, cephalization, and internal fertilization. A session of penis dueling, demonstrated the hermaphroditic quality of worms. Worms also were the first animals that had a head, brain, and stereo senses. We also learned about the many different types of segmented worms, which include the earthworm, and the round worms, which are primarily parasitic.
GT and I reviewed what we learned yesterday regarding costs, production, and the production function model. We did some review questions in the chapter to re-emphasize his learning.
GT and I discussed Part 3 of the novel. We talked about the predominant theme woven throughout. We discussed the symbols that the author employs. GT took a brief essay assessment on Part 3 which required him to answer in essay form. We began reading the next section, and GT will finish the reading for homework.
In this activity, GT used the rational root theorem with synthetic substitution and quadratic formula to factor and graph polynomials of degree greater than 2.
GT and I reviewed what we learned about the production function model yesterday. We took it a step further to discuss the types of costs that are associated with production and how profit is calculated based on the total costs.
We also spent some time discussing the the next chapter in "Think and Grow Rich" regarding 'faith' and it's application to achieving success.
GT and I learned about elasticity of supply today and how it compares to elasticity of demand. We watched a video and did some example problems. Then, we began learning about productivity and using the production function model to understand different stages of production and returns.
GT and I continued doing practice problems for calculating elasticity of demand using the midpoint formula. We also did a conceptual mini-assessment online to check his understanding of the principles, too (He did great!).
GT and I began a new unit in his vocabulary book. I introduced the words, pronunciations and the meanings. We studied all 20 words, and we completed most of the individual application activities. We then discussed the pages of the novel GT had read for homework. We discussed the imagery used by the author. We also discussed the different themes woven throughout. We also discussed how the author provided positive and negative connotations to the same objects. GT also wrote his response to the essay assessment of Part 2 of the novel. He will finish reading Part 3 for homework today.
In this activity, GT worked on long division of polynomials with divisors of degree one. This exercise had GT divide, with long division and synthetically.
In this activity, GT continued working on polynomials. In this exercise GT used factor patterns and GCF to factor the polynomials and determine the zeros and their multiplicities.
