GT and I had a lengthy discussion of Part Four of the book which he finished reading for homework. We talked about major themes and major conflicts. GT also wrote his answer to the essay question as part of an evaluation for this part of the book. We then moved to the vocabulary book. We started a new unit. We read the informational article highlighting and introducing the new words in context. We began working on some of the application activities. GT will read Part 5 of the novel for homework.
GT and I did a few practice problems regarding the production function and marginal revenue/cost. We discussed his recent interest in learning the "Wolf of Wallstreet" sales training and watched some quick videos explaining the methodology.
GT and I completed one unit of the vocabulary book. We began a new unit. We studied the words and their pronunciations. We began doing some of the application activities. We then continued our study of the novel. The section of the book that GT had read for homework is titled "The Accordionist." So I played my 48 base accordion for GT this morning. I'm not very good, but GT enjoyed it. It really is an important object in our novel. We discussed what it symbolizes and why it is important. We also discussed thoroughly the pages GT had read. We also previewed the essay questions that GT will answer as his evaluation for this part of the novel. He will continue reading for homework.
GT and I discussed our reading from "Think and Grow Rich" around the rest of the chapter on faith. We compared it to another book his Dad had from Napoleon Hill, too, and it was interesting to compare the approaches and content in the books.
We reviewed difference between average cost/revenue and marginal cost/revenue, and we watched a video with some assessment questions to better understand the impact on output from constant input both from a marginal and average perspective.
In this activity, GT used the five step process working on his exercises to graph several rational functions. These functions will be used frequently next year in his study of business calculus.
in this activity, Gt began his review of rational functions. The first thing we did was review the five step process in graphing Rational functions. This takes a whole session because some of the steps involve several steps or options.

TEAMS: Chasing Coral -
In honor of Earth Day, GT and I met to watch ‘Chasing Coral’. This movie is an epic adventure to capture important changes in our oceans. This documentary follows several scientists as they film the phenomena of coral bleaching, over time. Coral bleaching happens when the ocean water temperature rises just two degrees, causing the break down of the symbiotic relationship between coral and microalgae. The algae provide nourishment to the corals, so the animal dies. Along with a strong conservation message and a lesson on Global Warming, this film is an excellent introduction to the natural history of Cnidarians.

TEAMS: Taxonomy / Animals - Review -
GT was instructed to build a table of the taxonomy of Animals. In the first column, he listed the Phyla, then Class, followed by common name, characteristics, and notes. We then reviewed the Sponges, filling in the table as we discussed. We then reviewed Cnidarians (anemones, jellies and corals) and then the Worms (round, flat and segmented). We continued our lesson by introducing the Phyla: Molluscs, and the three Classes (gastropods, bivalves, and cephalopods).
