Upper body strength training exercises and stances...
Put the movements into a fighting sequence.
We used our "say it play it" approach to counting rhythms to create some interesting rhythmic patterns. We also used a couple of videos from Preschool Prodigies that let us apply some of the rhythms to some songs.
Jonathan listened about the USA symbols we have in the USA. He watched a discovery video on the Liberty Bell, Statue of Liberty, American flag, and the bald eagle. Jonathan wrote down one thing he learned about each of these symbols. Jonathan drew a picture of the symbols. Jonathan answered a fill in the blank questions about the American Flag. Jonathan watched a video about Betsy Ross and her role in the American Flag.
Review Counting Money, Review Telling Time, 3d Shapes
Lesson Outline
Jonathan reviewed counting money by counting the money on a short assessment. Jonathan practiced different arrangements of coins by playing the candy shop game online. Jonathan was given a fruit stand and he had to come up with the correct money using the specific number of coins. Jonathan practiced telling time to the closest five minutes. He looked at a variety of clocks and verbally told me the time. Jonathan reviewed 3d shapes and watched a brainpop video and took a short quiz. He solved multiple 3d shapes questions on ixl focusing on vertices, edges, and sides.
We kicked off Fantastic Friday with our daily language review. This exercise tasked us with making corrections for capitalization and punctuation needed for names and dates in a fictional birthday list. Jonathan did a great job, however needed assistance with capitalization needs for titles such as Dr. and Mrs. when followed by a name. To follow up our grammar activity from yesterday, we watched a Brain Pop Jr. educational video about prefixes. Jonathan did a great job working through the easy and hard quizzes, scoring a 3/5 and 5/5, respectively. We finished reading our novel, Midnight on the Moon. In our shared read-aloud, we worked on reading fluency. Our focus in oral reading is pausing with commas and at the end of the sentence. We are also working on reading the proper pronouns. For example, “she” and “he” are often misread as the opposite. We worked through the follow-up comprehension questions after each chapter (9 & 10) together as Jonathan needed a little help with some of the details. We discussed the vocabulary terms “rustled” and “wise”. Jonathan then used the words in context by telling of a time he made a wise choice. He needed prompting and some discussion to think of some wise choices he’s made. We discussed some events that had occurred back at school. Next, he took his spelling test for words related to the novel. He greatly improved this week as he scored a 5/12 on the pre-test and scored 10/12 today missing: equipment, astronauts, and absolutely (the bonus word). Finally, we entered the final stages of our huge writing project! Jonathan titled his book: The Amazing Amazon. He first wrote a title on his glossary page. Next, we worked to get his pages numbered properly. He then placed all of his pages in the correct order and he followed a model to complete his table of contents. We worked together on proper capitalization. Finally, he began working on the cover sheet by writing the title in block letters and filling them in with colored pencils.
Jonathan began his lesson today by reviewing Weathering using the Brain Pop quiz. He got 100% and has learned many basic concepts about weathering. The special topic highlighted today was the study of caves. We started the lesson by using a web cam to take a trip inside a cavern in the state of Washington. Jonathan learned about the terms stalagtite and stalagmite. The lesson included the concept of how the caves are formed. Websites were used to develop the topic. Jonathan learned about the cause of caves by watching a PowerPoint presentation I was building for him while working from a science web site. Jonathan learned that caves are generally made from limestone. The limestone is a sedimentary rock which is is carved out by the action of acids formed in nature. The first acid which Jonathan learned was carbonic acid. It is formed by combining the carbon dioxide in the air and the oxygen in water. This is considered a weak acid. Another acid which is formed when decayed leaves and animal matter produces hydrogen sulfide. This substance combines with the oxygen in the water and becomes sulfuric acid. This is a very strong acid which can carve out the limestone. Jonathn is creating a cave drawing and he will be working on making flashcards with new vocabulary words next week.
