Study Skills: Creative Ways to Structure Work Life
Lesson Outline
Cabo was presented with a reading from a blog by Mr. Money Mustache.
We discussed the author’s alternate work/life structure. We discussed the power of compounding interest. We read from Vanguard’s website regarding historical returns of select funds.
Ben was challenged to create his own take on a snowman in our 3D drafting software. He drafted one version in the software. The iPad rebooted unexpectedly. He finished drafting the creation on the whiteboard. We then recreated it in the software after he was done.
Cabo was run through a brief review of Spanish materials that we had covered.
He was then presented the information from a Time magazine article. This article detailed what one expert had deemed his top 5 keys to memorizing information.
Cabo and I then discussed how he could implement some of the keys from this article into his academic pursuits.
Marcel and I discussed the design process involved with many of today’s popular products. He was then given the opportunity to mentally go through that process with an imaginary product.
One theme of the class that was discussed over and over again was the value of cost-benefit analysis and how they can be used as a tool during various stages of the design process.
Cabo and I discussed his recent performance on the PERT practice test.
We discussed his desire to move forward toward taking the actual PERT test, to dual enroll next year, and the process to move forward in the even that he and his family decide that it is the best option.

Lesson Comments
Today was a shorter class period than we typically have and only allowed for a quick review of the test.
Today, I administered the Math portion of a practice PERT test to Cabo.
Cabo stayed focus through the test even though that took us a little over his scheduled session time.
At first glance, he did a fantastic job on the practice.

Lesson Comments
Cabo had a tough time transition. So, he started the test late. But, once he transitioned, he was focused and saw the test through to the end. It was tough to tell if he possibly rushed the last 2 questions on the test. Even if he did, I was impressed by him staying focused despite the class espionage ending prior to his completion of the test.
