It highlights the world in which a business operates today. Asn 1 guides Cameron in thinking about the video.
Carson did an excellent job on Assignment 1 locating interest rates on savings accounts in various banks and credit unions. Then he located a youth savings account that earns an astounding 7%.
After a short video on the difference between savings and investing, and their relationship, we drew the circular flow of the economy, including how savings and investing fit into it.
After watching a brief video on the 3 Pillars of Sustainability - Profits, Planet, and People, or Economic, Environmental, and Equity - we discussed their meaning and how it relates to businesses doing right by ALL their stakeholders, not just investors.
After reviewing the syllabus and the location in Teams of class files, we discussed how one would define a successful business, including sales, quality of product, customer reputation, and employee treatment. Cameron was great in our conversation!
After reviewing Teams and where course files will be kept, and the syllabus, we discussed the importance of goals, using Carson's tennis as an example. The SMART approach to goal-setting was introduced. Tomorrow we will apply it to financial and savings goals.
Cameron and I introduced ourselves and discussed his interests outside of class. We discussed entrepreneurs, the purposes of business (make enough money to support ourselves and our family, and to fill a need or demand in society), and what businesses we would start if we could. We discussed using online business simulation programs to learn the essentials of business.
Carson and I introduced ourselves, talked briefly about his interest and current knowledge of the stock market, and the Stock Market Game. Tomorrow we will go over the syllabus and get started with activities. He was very engaged!
