Bella did well completing the haircut. There was some time to begin simple hot iron curls. Bella is not thrilled with the idea of working with heat.
Bella executed the proper method of measuring eyebrows, developed a plan of action, properly applied wax, and removed some excess brow hair. She seemed to like waxing more than the hair cutting and curling tasks combined. =)
Analysis of the color application results performed in the last class. Perform the next haircut on the mannequin.

Bella executed a pretty sophisticated hair color application in our last class. This was her first attempt. Although the result of Bellas application was substantially successful, finding and pointing out a couple of errors, discussing the cause and how to prevent them from reoccurring in the future is typically not the most fun for anyone. Bella was a little too hard on herself seeing the few errors we found. Ultimately she learned it was a chemical mixing issue and an issue with older color molecules applied onto the human mannequin hair that could not be overcome outside of cutting the hair. Bella is about 80% of the way through that haircut. She is also working through the frustration of next-level professional body mechanics while managing multiple hair-cutting tools in her hands. I continue to be very proud of Bella's progress.
Theory -Use the color wheel and determine the saturation of color pigment necessary to create certain hair colors when desired but not readily available.
Practical application - plan a design and apply high fashion shades to the previously pre-lightened and prepared fringe section of the mannequin head.

My morning meeting with my clients in Lake Worth went into overtime and regrettably, I arrived at this class late.
Bella did very well in color theory recall from previous classes. She comprehended and made correct choices using the color wheel and mixing the saturation of color pigments and diluting the H2O2 to create the hair color that was not available for her desired design.
Bella is naturally cautious in her approach and does not want to make any mistakes. Her planning, practical application, and design outcome were all very well executed, particularly for a first-time attempt. Knowing mannequin heads stain very easily, and Bella having a strong opposition with anything "out of order", my olny regret in this class is that I wish I would have remembered to prepare Bella for the normal staining that occurs when students are learning hair color on their mannequin heads. I will try to see what may reduce the mannequin stains so she is less distracted when working on upcoming practical assignments. Ultimately it will be good for Bella to learn how to roll forward through stains and potentially some not-so-wonderful haircuts and styles and use the mannequin as intended for practice. She really did an amazing job throughout the whole process as reflected in her results.
Mercer wanted to get creative and do some art centered projects.
We made playdough together.
This project required Mercer to find a recipe and read that recipe.
He worked on writing and recognition of fractions as he wrote down the recipe. We discussed limiting ingredient as a precursor to the concept of limiting reactant.
Mercer and I discussed some of the chemical properties of water and soap as we cleaned during our project.
Mercer did an amazing job. He was enthusiastic, engaged, curious, and respectful.

Mercer asked if the fraction 1 1/2 signified 11.5. I explained to him a briefly but will try to follow up in the future.
Mercer was given an opportunity to explore 3D CAD software.
As this was not his first time, his exploration led to more advanced results, including: importing other works and borrowing from them, cloning subjects and applying slight modifications to yield an artistic effect.
Mercer was then tasked with creating a basic car in 3D.
We created a basic parts list and converted those into simple 3D shapes.
Complete full foil highlight skills on the mannequin head.
Oral review and situational testing by pulling together previous lessons in Trichology, Histology and Chemistry by using critical thinking in planning situations for Cosmetology skills application.

Bella and I both caught the bridge on the way to the campus and started class about 15 minutes late =(
Other than that, Bella did a great job hopping back into foil skills application.
Bella excelled in thinking through every situation I presented her such as "Is it possible to ....." "Is this scenario a chemical change or physical change...." "Why is it ...." "How could you approach....." scenarios.
