I arrived at the campus and was informed Bella was at home and attending her classes online this day. I was completely unprepared to teach any topics online, only prepared for a hands-on skills class. I was given a laptop and went to Bellas classroom and had a brief online conversation with her encouraging her to attend our classes in person, particularly the 3-hour skills classes on Thursdays.
Judy and I then had a followup meeting in the conference room regarding how Bella was doing in class currently and ways to encourage her in the future.

Lesson Comments
Bella finished the mixing of hair lightener and the application onto hair strands she wrapped in foils on the back of her mannequin head. This is a pretty sophisticated technique requiring the management of many steps in each section. Bella did very well with staying focused and remembering all the elements. The first application is always slow going, but she started to pick up some speed as she grew more confident. We should be finished the front sections of the head next week =)

Lesson Comments
Bella was on point and focused during the demo process of a basic foil highlighting application.
She was positive and patient with herself, easily asking for help and support as needed during her own application of foil highlighting techniques.
During the time the hair lightener was processing in the foils, Bella made her own color wheel using red, yellow, and blue paint. This was the foundation of the lecture on color theory and the chemistry of color that we will continue to build on in the weeks ahead.
Bella demonstrated her natural talent, interest, and ability to focus today. Her first hair highlighting skills class was outstanding =)!

She did an excellent job on her first haircut on her mannequin head!
Bella showed her ability to be a mature and compassionate professional when practicing her first facial massage routing on Andrew today.
There was a multitude of opportunities to "tease" her peer, but Bella offered sincere and positive comments instead.

Lesson Comments
Bella learned how to do a basic French Braid the first hour today. She had a relatively good outcome once she was past the third attempt.
She did very well at grasping the concepts of the 0-degree, 45-degree, and 90-degree angles in haircutting basic forms during class hour two. For this, she used the color-coded strings attached to the bald mannequin.
Bella finished the day doing a second round of parting and cutting the hair on her mannequin, now named "Darla", at a 0-degree angle.
It was a good day =)

Lesson Comments
This class was the first time I used the Microsoft Teams platform. It was a little bit of a struggle to connect the first few minutes of class and Bellas camera was not working. I had some handouts uploaded and a few visual props, but feel in general I am more comfortable with teaching the subject matter in person. But I also know the first time trying anything is typically the most difficult. I do feel after today's remote primer discussion, Bella is prepared for the concept and practical application of the skills planned for our class on Thursday.
