Richard practiced his spelling words and words with prefixes. He read books with words he can read. I did some assessment to determine what he currently knows about reading.
As Richard was to leave early for his eye appointment, it afforded us a good amount of time to review material that is covered in Richard's social studies exam. I presented the questions in different formats and styles - one which required a yes/no response and one which required a True/False response. The use of a variety of questioning strategies encourages Richard to tap his existing mental models, stimulate the recall of prior knowledge, promote expanded thinking, and build critical-thinking skills. Richard was amenable and responsive to the strategies I shared.
Richard completed his interactive calendar. He played a match game with his new vocabulary words and their definitions. He completed several activities pertaining to the weather.
Richard had a great session today. He worked on reading a variety of words to put together sentences of increasing length. Richard has not been able to participate in this task before due to reading but he did it today and was very proud of himself. Richard also worked on multiple meaning words today with ease. He is really doing a good job figuring out definitions/word meanings from texts.
Richard worked designing the first page of his book. He gathered and printed source images and then he began to transfer his image to the first page with carbon paper.
