Kellan read and discussed his vocabulary words. He drew two more caricatures in his States' and Capitals' notebook. He read and discussed an article about tolerance during the Reformation.
This morning, Kellan and I began by reviewing how to read and measure with a ruler to the nearest 1/4 inch before Kellan measured numerous items from his desk. Then, he worked on finding missing values in basic equations with all operations by filling in the blanks with values. Finally, Kellan and I played a quick game of multiplication war.
Kellan reviewed his states and capitals preparing for his test on Monday. He located the states on his map. He read and reviewed his vocabulary words. He read about William Tyndale, and the contribution/sacrifice he made during the Reformation.
Kellan read about the causes of the moon phases and analyzed a diagram of the moon phases caused by its orbit around Earth and relative position of the sun. He watched a video animating the causes of the moon's phases. He learned the terms waxing, waning and gibbous. I verbally quizzed him on the phases of the moon.
For today's review, Kellan wrote the fraction of a shaded shape, named the unit fraction, and determined all possible ways to put equal groups together to make a given product. Then, our lesson focused on how to decompose fractions. Together, we completed the lesson's example on breaking a whole into parts while recognizing that it can be done in multiple ways. For homework, Kellan was assigned a multiplication facts check.
