Kellan read about the moon phases on pages 190-1. He analyzed a diagram of the moon phases: new moon, crescent moon, first quarter moon, gibbous moon and full moon. He diagrammed the moon phases.
Kellan reviewed his spelling words to prepare for the test tomorrow. He worked on a picture of Dav Pilkey to send to him to request a visit. He made a game to identify the literary elements of The Watsons Go to Birmingham.
Today, Kellan began with a multi-step, multi-digit multiplication word problem for review. Then, we focused on applying our recent lessons on understanding the concept of fractions to problem-solving questions. Kellan solved real-world scenarios, using number lines or quick pictures to model fractions before using these to model adding fractions with common denominators.
Kellan read about Earth in Space - Seasons. He analyzed a diagram of how Earth's tilt and orbit around the sun cause the four seasons. He watched a video about how Earth's tilt causes the seasons. He drew an illustrated diagram of this phenomenon.
Kellan wrote sentences for his spelling words. We read his new Dog Man book and discussed it.
