We began reading a graphic novel called "Diary of a 6th Grade Ninja." We took turns reading aloud. I showed Kellan how to slow down so that he doesn't skip over words that are hard for him to pronounce. I demonstrated how to break up the words into syllables to help with pronuniciation.
Kellan was given a sheet of paper and instructed to create a panel layout for his comic book page. After Kellan completed the task, he moved on to sketch ideas that would be displayed in each panel.
To begin, Kellan used the 4s fact flashcards for review before taking a timed facts check. Then, he completed a daily review question on solving a 2 operation, multi-step word problem. Our lesson continued on using the steps needed to solve 2-digit by 2-digit multiplication problems. Kellan is doing very well but is struggling with multiplying the tens place by the tens place which we will continue to practice. Correlating multiplication problems were assigned for homework.
Kellan brainstormed how to determine the identity of a substance. He determined that burning the substance to test for flammability is a good method of identification. He viewed a video on why athletes bite gold. He learned that real gold is soft, and pyrite (fool's gold) is hard. He created a chart comparing and contrasting pyrite and gold.
Kellan wrote his spelling words in his journal and highlighted words to remember. We looked at information about Native Americans in Florida. He read Cat Kid.
