Jasmine had an assignment from class.

We went over the assignment together discussing what she had done well and where she could improve.

We discussed staying calm during class and during asessments and what standards are appropriate for her home culture.

We previewed items that are likely to appear in her class in the near future.

Jasmine and I co-read the novel, The War that Changed My Life. The evacuee children are challenged with a new life, living in the country outside of London. Their spinster guardian begins to bond with the children, growing into the role of a parent-figure. Jasmine is reading with good prosody and demonstrates excellent comprehension of the text.

We began the session by watching a short YouTube video detailing children's evacuation from London before the Blitz. I think that the footage showing the children on the trains, coupled with interviews, helped Jasmine to visualize the setting from the book and to make it feel more "real." We co-read three chapters of the novel. Jasmine continues to impress me with her reading fluency and comprehension. After a long day at school, I recognize that online tutoring can be challenging, and I appreciate her effort. Good job, Jasmine!

Jasmine and I began by revisiting the book's setting, a town outside of London at the beginning of World War II. The main character and her brother are among the children who have been evacuated from London in anticipation of the bombing. We co-read several chapters, pausing to clarify details and make predictions.

Jasmine and I co-read the novel, The War That Saved My Life. Jasmine is reading very well with excellent comprehension.

Jasmine and I co-read three chapters of the novel, The War that Saved my Life. The main characters are young children evacuated to the English countryside from London during World War II. Jasmine was unfamiliar with this part of history; she seems interested. Much like a Roald Dahl book, many of the adult characters are cruel to the children. It will be instructive to discover how the children persevere.

We co-read two chapters, pausing to discuss the characters and setting. Jasmine is reading well, and her ability to summarize is improving. I enjoy her dry sense of humor!

Jasmine and I co-read the remainder of the novel Wish. I was pleased with Jasmine's prosody and reading comprehension. She made excellent predictions and summarized the story well as we read. I will find a new novel for our next session. Great work, Jasmine!
