Lesson Outline
We began the session by watching a short YouTube video detailing children's evacuation from London before the Blitz. I think that the footage showing the children on the trains, coupled with interviews, helped Jasmine to visualize the setting from the book and to make it feel more "real." We co-read three chapters of the novel. Jasmine continues to impress me with her reading fluency and comprehension. After a long day at school, I recognize that online tutoring can be challenging, and I appreciate her effort. Good job, Jasmine!

I'm not sure what is going on with Jasmine. At 4:05, she had not logged on, so I called Elise, who checked in with Kyra. She appeared at 4:30 but seemed disengaged. Perhaps you should talk to her mom and make sure that I am meeting her needs.

I was on the line for 60 minutes. Jasmine showed up 15 minutes late and turned off the camera, and left at 4:45, using the chat feature to say, "I AM GOING TO LEAVE." I texted Elise to call her mother to check on her but did not hear back. At 5:00, I signed off.

Jasmine did a great job bring an assignment for us to work on during our session. She brought the test review packet.

Jasmine and I went over the answer for each question of the packet discussing the logic of the answers as we went.

Jasmine was also given some impromptu questions during the session to verify her level of understanding of key concepts.

We ended the session doing fast math flash cards.

She did a fantastic job during our session.

Jasmine and I co-read three chapters of the novel, The War that Saved my Life. The main characters are young children evacuated to the English countryside from London during World War II. Jasmine was unfamiliar with this part of history; she seems interested. Much like a Roald Dahl book, many of the adult characters are cruel to the children. It will be instructive to discover how the children persevere.
