School photo prep -
Will and I discussed what is important to keep in mind when attempting to get a portrait photograph: backdrop, lighting, and staging. We reviewed what we will need to do for the up-coming school photo project. Will walked around the school to photograph students in ‘everyday’ activities including Green Eggs and Ham, and a potato battery.

Will and I discussed what is important when making portraits with photography. We explored the different issues a portrait photographer needs to keep in mind. We examined last year's year book as I explained the difference between candid photos and portraits. We talked about backgrounds and lighting. Political Collage -
Will was instructed in how to use the text tool. We did several exercises to experiment with this tool and give Will the confidence to use it in the future. Will was called to photograph a school happening: Green Eggs and Ham. We discussed the upcoming school photo assignment we will tackle over the next couple of weeks.

Political Collage -
Will completed the homework beautifully, but forgot to save the image before it was lost. We worked on to the next unit: collage. I asked Will to think of something that he liked, wished, or laughed with, to be used in a collage. After some attempts, he decided on a political satire. He searched for and found the images that he wanted to use and we worked together to prepare them for his final image. Homework: finish preparing the subject for the political collage. Remember to save his work!

Backgrounds -
Will started the class with stating that he did not feel confident to complete the homework assignment. We worked on the process of changing the background in an image. He completed his homework assignment. He was tasked with finding different images to use for the sky, including some that were not expected (clouds, balloons, horses etc.). He practiced selecting images on Google, copying them, opening them in Photoshop. He then had to make the image a layer, in his original project Photoshop document (psd). After he repeated the process several times, he was tasked with finding a suitable image of a dog, for his homework assignment. Homework: replace the background of the dog image, with the image provided. He was told to give it a try, and assured that if he ran into trouble we would complete the assignment on Monday.

Changing sky -
Will had not started his homework, so I instructed him to see if he could do the assignment without help. He had a few points where we needed to review, but he was able to change the daytime sky of an image to a stunning aurora borealis sky. He also added a moon to the image. Homework: change the sky once again, to a different sky of his choice.

Land-sky exercise/test -
We revisited the project we worked on last Thursday. Will was tasked with replacing the sky from the landscape image with the night sky image. As before, Will was not given instruction, but rather prompted with a task, but not directed to the tools. Homework: Will must change the sky in the image titled ‘Homework 1’ on his computer. He should start the project tonight to see if he will have difficulty, but the final image is due on Thursday.
