Will presented his homework assignment. As we examined his work, we reviewed the fundamentals of photography. We discussed how it is important to identify the subject of your photo and make sure it is framed in such a way as to be important in the photo. We edited a few of his photos, and reviewed the rest, discussing what was done well, and what could be done differently. We then returned our attention to his movie project, and Will took some video to serve as background in one scene. Homework: finish the movie script; edit his photos to one from each series.

Will used Photoshop to convert his photos into videos. He then opened the new video in iMovie, with the background video we compiled. He then removed the green screen to see his actors walking against the background. He repeated the entire process on selected images, to create a close-up shot of his character, with the appropriate background. We compared the differences between the original image and the final image, noting the changes in color balance. Will used Photoshop to repair some images that did not fare well with the green screen conversion. Finally we discussed his expectations of this project, and talked about the differences between a school project and a major motion picture.

I substituted for Mr. Kevin. During this brief class, Will and I discussed putting some of his photographs on his walls. He didn’t like his choices, so we discussed movie or music posters possibilities. He was willing to think about it over the weekend. Homework: take at least 12 photos of the ocean, intra coastal, or other waterway.

Will worked on converting his photographs into a green screen video, using Photoshop. We examined the animation and Will rearranged his images to make the movement smoother. We then worked at adding his new green screen video to a background. He found that he needed to match the speed of his stop action video and the background video. We also decided his characters need to be sized to fit the scene. We talked about where it is a good idea to cut to close up the video of his stars. Homework: work on finishing the script.

Will examined the work we did to smooth out the walking opening scene of the movie. Will and I converted some of the other scenes so he could see how the stop action animation will look. Will then realized it is a good time to complete the script, so our actors will be able to ‘speak’ their lines. He worked on the dialogue that will be needed for the different scenes and the images that will accompany the script. Will also approved the collected and animated background video. Homework: finish writing the script.

I substituted for Mr. Kevin. Will was not willing to discuss music theory, which he is currently working on in this class. We used this time to work on the stop action movie project. Will used Photoshop tools (stamp, eraser, and paintbrush) to repair the wardrobe malfunctions of his ‘actors’ in images that have not yet been fixed.

We started to put the work we have done on the stop action images into motion today, literally. Will opened the stop action images, which are part of the opening scene of his movie, in Photoshop. We converted the images into a video, and started the editing process. He decided to enhance the walking scene, so we manipulated the image order, and added some additional images to the scene. Homework: see if you can set up a dropbox account.

Will was tasked with photographing the students while they conducted regular school work and activities. He also photographed the artwork adorning the walls around the school. Once done, he showed me he was comfortable with transferring the photos from the camera to the computer, and we worked on renaming and keyword application. We then worked on the process of editing his photos, discussing the ways to evaluate a photo, keeping the purpose and potential for use in mind.
