Hebrew Writing
Lesson Outline
Today's lesson focused on Hebrew writing. Mercer read material that detailed information about three forms of Hebrew writing: Square Hebrew, a formal book hand, Rabbinical, or Rashi-writing used by medieval Jewish scholars, and Polish-German type became the modern cursive form. He learned that the early Hebrew alphabet was similar to the Phoenician writing as opposed to modern Hebrew writing, with 22 letters written from left to right with only consonants represented. Mercer also reviewed the Samaritan alphabet, which is still used by a few hundred Samaritan Jews.
