Mercer had a hard time focusing on the lesson material.
He was interested in how keyboards work, keyboard layout.
We also covered how keyboards evolved from typewriters, how the typical PC GUI evolved from physical things like file folders, documents, notes, calenders, etc.
Today's lesson focused on King Solomen. Mercer reviewed material that provided evidence of Solomon's reign. He read material that detailed scholars claim to have discovered artifacts that corroborate the biblical account of his reign in the early 10th century BCE; others claim that the archaeological record strongly suggests that the fortified cities and even the Temple of Jerusalem actually emerged more than a century later. Mercer spent the remainder of the class looking at fun world geography facts.

Reading Comprehension Spelling Handwriting Wordly Wise Literature
Lesson Outline
He learned how to write m and v in cursive. We are focusing on figurative parts of speech this week. Today we discussed what a simile and a metaphor are, how they are alike, and how they are different. We discovered that figurative language is reading candy. He completed a Wordly Wise activity, using these vocabulary words in context. He color coded a chart for the different figurative languages we are studying this week and glued it into his English notebook for future reference. We put up posters for the definitions of a simile and a metaphor. We reviewed and answered questions over Chapter 4 of his literature book.
We copied down all his new vocabulary words and their definitions using the glossary as a source for these definitions. Then we did an activity answering questions over the material covered.
He learned how to write the letters f and n in cursive. We discussed the 9 figurative languages we will be covering for his SSAT test. We made a book mark containing the the words and definitions for all nine figurative languages for him to use as a reference to study from. We practiced writing a timed essay. He is learning how to use a working title and create notes from which he will write this essay. He is also required to go back and check his completed essay for grammar and punctuation mistakes before his time is up.
