Lesson 5 Atoms and Elements - We learned how the 1st periodic table was created by Mendeleev. Then we calculated the number of neutrons in a copper atom. Next we added notes on reading element properties from the periodic table.

Student Absent

We continued working on Solo #3 in the Alfred's Snare Drum Method book. We also worked on playing a basic rock beat on the drum set.

Mercer began exercises from the 6th grade math Envision textbook, Adding Fractions With Unlike Denominators.

Today's lesson focused on ancient Egypt. Mercer read material about life in Egypt and who was credited with locating one of the most famous Egyptian kings, Tutankhamun. Mercer spent the remaining time of class locating cities in Mesopotamia, where artifacts and mummies were found.

Mercer wanted to get creative and do some art centered projects.

We made playdough together.

This project required Mercer to find a recipe and read that recipe.
He worked on writing and recognition of fractions as he wrote down the recipe. We discussed limiting ingredient as a precursor to the concept of limiting reactant.

Mercer and I discussed some of the chemical properties of water and soap as we cleaned during our project.

Mercer did an amazing job. He was enthusiastic, engaged, curious, and respectful.

Today we did a Rockalingua activity in which we practiced the seasons of the year and learned new vocabulary such as forest, jungle, river, and sea.

We discussed and answered questions about ," The Lost City." We investigated imperative and interrogative sentences, and worked on activities to improve recognition of imperative and interrogative sentences.
