We completed a lesson on how to write a film/tv treatment

With student we went over three act structure presented in films with charts, vocabulary, and videos. Student is a fast learner and picked up the information quickly.

Student and teacher discussed different story formats from different lessons. Student was able to understand three act structure and identify them in different films.

Worked with student on creating loglines based on his favorite show Sonic. Student was able to identify elements of story structure. Student was eventually able to write and create his own loglines.

Student and I went over what it takes to make film and television pitches to studios, companies, and financiers. We had conversations about different directors, and tv shows and their origins.

Today, I helped Matthew organize his thoughts to create a storyline. We discussed some important elements of a story, and gave examples, concentrating on the character, place, and the plot. Matthew developed a story about a thirsty plant. He gave it a name and created a few characters who were the plant’s friends. To help enrich our story, we went outside and watered a thirsty plant. Matthew enjoyed this hands-on activity which helped spark his imagination and facilitated his ability to abstract. We had fun on this activity, especially the part when we got a little wet in the process.
