Spencer listened to, and discussed the life and life cycle of the ant. He completed a reading comprehension activity on the body parts of an ant. We went exploring outside and captured an ant for him to observe.
Using a fun book, Spencer was confident reading a new book with “would you rather questions.” Strong /R/ words with lots of laughter. It was a great session with some fun new descriptive vocabulary.
Spencer seen at school for a hour treatment session. Focus of treatment on improving his executive function, fine motor skills (dexterity and manipulation) and graphomotor skills. Started session with activities to improve hand dexterity and manipulation. OT gave Spencer a fidget pencil and showed him how he could use it to help focus himself when listening. He used it during our time together. Instructed Spencer on capital "S" and "H" in cursive. He was able to write both letters well. Spencer practiced writing his both his first and last name in script. Good session and good attitude today.
Spencer wanted to be outside. With movement and foam language dice, we tossed the dice which sent us on a scavenger hunt. Great language with describing words while practicing our speech.
Spencer seen at school for a hour treatment session. Focus of treatment on improving his executive function, fine motor skills (dexterity and manipulation) and graphomotor skills. Began session playing a game of chess against Spencer. Chess is a strategic game that definitely develops executive function abilities. Spencer demonstrated good problem solving and forward thinking abilities during this game. Continue to work in his room. Focused on teaching him how to write his name is cursive. He only required instruction with forming the lower case letter "n" in his name - all others letters were formed adequately. We continued to practice the high connecting letters in cursive today as well. Good session.
Using some of the nature lessons, we expanded our research while practicing /r/ sounds. Spencer was motivated to move the activity on to a game, so we tackled 100 words with 70% accuracy(with model and verbal cues) and moved on to a card game.
Spencer brought me two canvases that he had painted by himself. He wanted to add two different characters to them that were the opposite color from the background. Spencer found the images and learned how to use the big printer and print them out. We then each transferred one of the drawings onto the respective canvases. He then got out the colors he wanted to use and started painting. He finished one and I finished one in under an hour and then we added black outlines and let them dry.
