Judicial Branch of Government: Definition, Role & Power
Lesson Outline
The judicial branch is one of three branches of the federal government. The judicial branch includes criminal and civil courts and helps interpret the United States Constitution. The most important part of the judicial branch is the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court's role is to interpret the Constitution and limit the powers of the other branches of government. The Supreme Court's power to do this is its power of judicial review, where it determines which laws and policies are constitutional, or allowable, and which are not. We discussed examples of judicial review.

Lesson Comments
Bella is not doing requested homework and so is not progressing at a rate she is capable of. I talked with her about this today and hope to see an improvement. Also, I think it would be helpful for Bella to talk with a guidance/college counselor if possible so class and knowledge pre-requisites for prospective college majors are clear to her. I talked with her today and her brother is a lawyer and it seems she could have some interest in being a lawyer (and in particular, a judge) -- if this is the case her need to catch up and accelerate math learning (which will be necessary if she wants to be a nurse) could be mitigated.

Judicial Branch of Government: Definition, Role & Power
Lesson Outline
The judicial branch is one of three branches of the federal branch. The judicial branch includes criminal and civil courts and helps interpret the United States Constitution. As we learned, the most important part of the judicial branch is the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court's role is to interpret the Constitution and limit the powers of the other branches of government. The Supreme Court's power to do this is its power of judicial review, where it determines which laws and policies are constitutional, or allowable, and which are not.
