Today, Bella and I kept reading, interpreting and analyzing Othello Act 1 Scene 1. We diagrammed Iago on a mind map, writing quotes that describe him and then a summary of the quote. We went over tricky language.
A senator serves in the US Senate, the upper chamber of the Congress. Senators must be 30 years of age before taking office. They also must be a citizen of the U.S. for nine years and reside in the state that they represent. Senators serve six-year terms. The primary responsibilities of a senator includes: legislation, government oversight, approving presidential appointees, approving foreign treaties, and trying the president during the impeachment process. They also work on committees and meet with lobbyists, whose job it is to convince congressmen to support a particular piece of legislation. The responsibility of legislation and government oversight are duties shared with the House of Representatives, the lower chamber of the Congress. In total, there are 100 senators, two for each state.
In today's class, Bella worked on an in-class quiz that tested her knowledge on everything we have covered the last week or two on cell structure and function. Bella did very well answering the questions I had for her.
Today, Bella and I watched a short animated video on Othello, viewing an abridged version of each act and scene. She took notes on the video. We then opened up our Othello curriculum book, read and discussed the pre-reading points, and read Act 1 Scene 1 together. We paused for comprehension, to discuss, and to utilize another copy of the play that provides a contemporary translation of the lines.
President Biden attended Queen Elizabeth's funeral today. He said she "defined an era." Biden joined leaders from other nations to pay their respects to the queen. Biden reflected the queen embodied a commitment to public service, whose life charted the major historical events of the last 100 years. Biden and the queen first met in 1982, when he was a young senator. At the G7 summit last year, the queen hosted Biden and the first lady for tea at Windsor Castle. Last night, the President saw Charles for the first time since he became King. Charles has campaigned for certain issues Biden also champions, including climate change. It remains to be seen how involved Charles will be as king. Close in age, Charles is 73, Biden is 79, the two men share experiences being in the public eye for decades before assuming their current roles as heads of state. Biden "conveyed the great admiration of the American people for the Queen, whose dignity and constancy deepened the enduring friendship and special relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom," the White House said. "President Biden conveyed his wish to continue a close relationship with the King." Many issues are currently testing the US-UK "special relationship," which has been analyzed repeatedly in the days since the Queen's death.
In today's lesson, Bella worked on some activities that covered what we learned about with cell structure and function. One activity included reading comprehension where Bella read a passage and answered questions based off of the material. Another activity included a crossword puzzle where Bella read the clues and used her knowledge about what we learned to fill in the puzzle. Bella did very well with both.
Solve absolute value problem #2 from test and be prepared to walk me through solution; prepare first good draft of Bella's List of Things to know and email it (via Notes App) to me before Wednesday's class
