Jaydn read, discussed, and analyzed a chapter of The Great Alone. She analyzed the chapter for diction that created fear. She then wrote a short paragraph imitating the author's style using diction to create a fear. She ended the session reviewing SAT vocabulary.
The plan was to explore tangent lines to circles and their properties. I was going to explain the significance of the fact that tangent lines meet the radius at the point of tangency in a ninety degree angle. I was also going to show her how all tangent lines to a single external point are of equal length. Unfortunately, Jaydn was not present either in person or virtually. There was no assignment.

Jaydn was absent due to taking the wrong medicine which made her too sleepy for instruction.
Today she practiced with some exercises including the whole list of verbs that have to be learned during this course. She completed all the exercises of the verbs in the present and past tense. We watched a video about Mexico, her country for her project.
In class today Jaydn worked on completing the Social Science portion of the Pearson Stanford Achievement Test.

Originally scheduled this period with Matthew McMahon. But since he was absent, I was able to "sub" for Jaydn...which was great so she could work on the Social Science portion of the Pearson Stanford - especially because we were not scheduled for class today. So Jaydn was able to make earlier progress on this section of the test today. She completed 27 out of 40 questions on this section. Jaydn will complete the remaining questions sometime soon. She worked on English earlier this morning & still needs to complete that section. She will not begin any other sections today as she left at lunchtime. Jaydn says she is not sure what day she will return to school this week to complete the Pearson Stanford.
Jaydn and I worked on some additional chapter review problems including Euler's formula, cross sections, volumes, and surface areas of basic figures. We calculated volumes given the surface areas of various solids. There was no assignment.

Jaydn's class participation has improved somewhat. The most significant improvement is her willingness to volunteer answers when she is unsure of herself.
Jaydn read, discussed, and analyzed the next chapter of The Great Alone. She found diction that creates the impending tension, creates the growing madness of the character Ernt, and the fear looming in the characters of Mama and Leni. Jaydn also found the metaphors that create imagery. Jaydn then reviewed SAT vocabulary being studied. She wrote a small paragraph about the chapter read, using many of the SAT words in context.
Jaydn was not online for first period this morning.

We seem to have run into the same issue this Thursday as last Thursday: Jaydn is not online for first period. She wrote to me first last Thurs. at 10:03 am: "Hi. I didn't know I had class at 9am today. On Thursdays I usually start at at 10." I notified the front office. Kendra confirmed that she emailed Jaydn about changing her start time to 9am on Thursdays, but Jaydn did not respond to multiple calls and emails throughout the hour. I called school at 9:30am. Elise said Andrew A-M was just being dropped off by his mom who told Elise Jaydn didn't have her new schedule. Hopefully, Mom will let Jaydn know to get online where I am waiting for her. tried to no avail, to connect with Jaydn between 9 - 10am today. She never signed into Teams.
Jaydn read, discussed, and alanlyzed the next chapter of The Great Alone. She discussed the theme of hope and love and found text to support her analysis of the theme.She then wrote a short essay on how the necklace given to Lenny by Matthew represents their hope and love for one another.
