Will and I talked about how almost every job requires some sort of computer knowledge and ability. Will chose a specific job to research (auto parts purchaser) to learn what computer skills this position might require. He researched the position on the internet and read some of the descriptions from job postings and took notes about the key computer skills required.
Will learned how to copy files from a memory stick to his computer's hard drive. He first set up a separate folder for the files so they wouldn't get mixed up with his current files. After copying the files, he properly ejected the memory stick. I also told Will about the importance of creating backups of his files in case something were to go wrong with his computer. I explained he can use something as simple as the memory stick, but would be better off investing in an external hard drive, such as Apple's AirPort or Western Digital's Passport.
Jackson started class with a keyboarding lesson. He is learning how to type with both hands so that he can become more efficient on the computer. After that, he worked on his PowerPoint presentation. He is learning how to apply themes and formats, how to order objects on a slide, and how to use images in the presentation.
Will completed his personal profile PowerPoint presentation. He added slides on a person he admires, a favorite quote, and something about the future. He attached the presentation to an email and sent it to me.
Will continued to work on his PowerPoint presentation. He added to his personal profile, using different slide formats and adding pictures to illustrate the content on the slide.
Will finished the outline for his personal PowerPoint presentation and then began creating the presentation itself. He created a title slide and included a picture of himself that he took using Photo Booth.
Jackson first practiced some keyboarding drills to teach him proper technique on a computer keyboard. He then began working on a PowerPoint presentation that is a personal profile, which includes family, school, sports, hobbies, and other information.
