Will wrote a script that animated his Luke sprite. This required him to choose script that added words to the character and that changed the character so he would look as if he was talking. Next, Will wanted to add an Obi-Wan sprite. He first searched the Scratch library for an appropriate figure, but was unable to find one to suit his purposes. So, he searched online and chose an image that he then imported into his Scratch project.
Will first learned about how to use his "backpack" in Scratch to borrow figures he can use in his own project. Next, he began to write an initial script to animate his figure so he looks as if he is talking.
After some keyboarding exercises, Jackson used the tools in MS Word to create an outline. He began typing the outline for his research project, using traditional outlining format.
Will continued working on his project for Scratch. He is using the drawing tools in Scratch to modify his character (sprite) so he can create different "costumes" that will show the character speaking and moving into different positions.
Will is beginning a new Scratch project. He came up with a Star Wars themed story and will be using multiple applications to create the figures he will animate. The process will require him to draw his figures in one application, save it in an appropriate file format, and then upload the picture to the Scratch program.

Lesson Comments
This class is usually 45 minutes, but Will did not have a substitute for his next class, so we went an additional 15 minutes.
Will finished reading a Billy Collins poem online and writing answers to questions about it in a MS Word document. He then sent the document back to me as an attachment in an email. We watched a TED talk with Billy Collins demonstrating how five of his poems were turned into animations.
Will saved an attachment from his email. The attachment was a Word document that instructed him to revisit his research on Billy Collins and answer questions about him. At the end of class, Will chose a Billy Collins poem to read. For homework, he will finish reading the poem and answer the last questions in the Word document.
Using the information he gathered for the auto parts buyer job and some internet research, Will wrote a "help wanted" ad in Microsoft Word. He used bolding and bullets to format the ad as well as added hyperlinks for email and web site addresses. I also showed Will how he can remove items from the dock and still have them available in his applications folder.
Will used Microsoft Word to type up a job description for an auto parts buyer. He added details about required skills and education, specifically requirements for computer knowledge.
