Today Joshua was out so we met on Teams. We watched a short video together about residuals. Ironically, this is something Joshua was already familiar with, but I have never actually seen it before. So I learned along with him and he explained to me what he already knew. We used the calculator to enter in data and it gave us a linear regression model. Then we used that function to determine how far apart the actual data is from the predictive model. Then we calculated the percent error.
Outline the structural formula for a phenol. Discuss some uses for this class of compounds, as well as preparation. Introduce the functional group called ethers. Use the first two ethers in a series to demonstrate the formula and the nomenclature. Discuss how ether is a general anesthetic and the stages of anesthesia. Introduce the nomenclature for ethers
Watched two short videos on Christmas Traditions in Germany - discussed comparisons and contrasts to American Christmas traditions, learned new vocabulary and added to our list. Went over Vocabulary list and definitions review for Quiz.
Continue with the study of organic alcohols by introducing polyhydroxyl alcohols, alcohols with 2 or 3 hydroxyl groups substituted onto alkane molecules. Discuss the nomenclature of these alcohols. Introduce glycerol, trinitroglerol, and glycols.
Discuss their use as antifreeze, explosives, and humectants.
Joshua was absent today so we met online on Teams. We discussed section 2.5B on Exponential Functions context problems and modeling. We discussed how if something increases/decreases by the same percentage over and over again, we can use exponential modeling to create a function that would represent the scenario. We practiced just looking at given functions and determining what the rate of growth/decay is. Then we read various word problems and practiced coming up with the equations ourselves. These problems are a review of Algebra 2, so Joshua found this concept to be easy once I reviewed for him how to do them.
Discussed the possessive case in German - genitive - and went over the foundation of it and several exercises to practice using it.
Watched a video on Christmas Markets in Germany in German twice and wrote down several interesting cultural items regarding it as well as new vocabulary.

Lesson Comments
Joshua couldn't get the Internet working at his house so was a little late, but other than that the lesson went very well.
