We start out with a short conversation about our weekend plans and minor challenges with technology. Joshua then completed the A2 evaluation we started yesterday. He did very well. We reviewed the use of the auxiliary verbs with the perfect tense and I have copied a few practice exercises into our Google file.
Unit 8- Poetry -Extended metaphor, symbolism, paradox
Lesson Outline
Today's lesson focused on how to construct an argumentative thesis on the function of metaphor and how symbolism functions to create meaning. We studied Blake's "Ah Sunflowers" and first identified structural clues to meaning , such as punctuation and rhyme scheme. I then provided instruction on paraphrasing the poem and from the paraphrasing identifying the poem's symbols and what they represent. With sufficient explanation ,Joshua was able to formulate some ideas of symbolic significance recognizing the relationship between the sunflower and the sun and humanity's seeking unity with God.
we started out talking about Joshua's college applications and plans for Christmas and the break. Joshua completed half on an online A2-level 'test' that will help reveal areas we should review and practice from this level bevor moving into B1. He did very well in both conversation and the test questions.
Discuss the atomic model as proposed by Neils Bohr.. Concentrate on the electronic structure of an atom and the emission spectrum seen by an excited atom. Introduce his theory of the planetary model. View the emission spectrum for hydrogen. Elicit how stability of the system due to the electron occupied by specific energy levels. Discuss the Bohr equation, E=- Rhc/n^2 and specify what each represents.
To investigate the momentum Changss when objects collide. The vectors drawn on a graph paper represent the momentum of he objects (steel ball) after the collisions Determine how the sum of the moments of the vectors are equal. Determine how the results support the conservation of energy.

Unit 8- Poetry -Extended metaphor, symbolism, paradox
Lesson Outline
After we completed reviewing a prior homework assignment from AP classroom, we examined the use of symbolism in poetry. I distinguished metaphor from symbolism and then distributed a simple short poem that employed symbolism. Joshua then identified the symbols and offered interpretations of the symbols. Using the same poem ,I provided additional instruction on the use of structure and punctuation to create meaning noting the use of poetic shifts signaled by hyphens ,the use of the word "but", and expressions/ punctuation as in "Ah!". Joshua will continue to work on developing interpretative thesis statements on the function of metaphor tonight.
Use Planck's equation to explain what happens to the color of a metal as it is heated. Discuss temperature and the spectrum given off as temperature changes. The frequency of the emission is related to the temperature. Discuss Planck's equation as E initial energy _ E final energy being equal to delta nav. Derive that were n=1, the equation becomes E=hv. Answer check your understanding questions from text. Introduce the duality of EM radiation.
