Unit 3 History of Computers – We learned about the inventors of calculating devices through history. We discovered the first mechanical device used to perform mathematical calculations and counting. Then we learned about a calculating machine developed to count taxes. We explored the development of a machine to make intricate pattern designs on a loom from punched cards. We learned about Charles Babbage who is called the father of today’s computers for his invention of the difference engine.

Phishing – We learned the definition of the word phishing. We must watch out for websites or apps trying to steal our personal information. We discovered that we should be careful clicking links online or in emails. We know to log off of accounts when we are using a public computer. We learned the meaning of two-factor authentication.
Scratch Programming – We learned how to program our character or sprite to move on our background. We created If-then statements that assigned keys to move our character. Then we learned to save our program.

Usernames – We practiced using creative nicknames, colors, foods, characters, and acronyms to protect our identity. Then we practiced creating strong passwords to keep our personal information safe. Next, we practiced creating avatars for our digital image. Next, we learned only to geo-tag safe, public locations after we have left. We discovered which websites are trustworthy.
