Andrew worked on his concentration proposal paper during the first twenty minutes of class. Afterwards, we went over his requirements for sustained investigation and perspective. He chose three pieces as options to investigate and we went over his next steps and chose a final piece he’ll be using. We set a deadline for his second perspective piece, which he will do the majority of at home. He is expected to complete at least six hours of work on this project in the next two weeks (10/14).
Andrew worked on his concentration proposal paper for the duration of class. We worked on figuring out how to expand upon what he chose as his topic and how he will investigate that through he mediums he chose on the handout.
Andrew finished working on his Concentration handout and we went over his next project and how it will need to be done to fit into the concentration. He finished class by working on his foreshortening piece, finishing the muscle anatomy on the legs and the shorts the figure is wearing.
Andrew worked on finishing his foreshortening piece for the first half of class. For the second half of class we went over a CollegeBoard handout on writing his concentration proposal. He answered questions on his unifying concept, style, design technique, and materials that he would be using. He chose three design techniques (emphasis/contrast, proportion and texture) to investigate through his concept. We worked on starting to write what his concentration is attempting to investigate and why.
Andrew spent class working on his foreshortening and perspective pieces. For foreshortening, we are working on pushing the contrast of the dark spaces. This allows for more readability from a distance which is typically how we view art. It also allows for more readability in photographs which is how his work will be submitted. For perspective, he worked on blocking in all the sides of the structures that were facing the light source and shaded them using a white charcoal pencil.
Assignment
Foreshortening the Figure and One- point Perspective
Andrew and I started class going over what he did for homework. He sketched for 15 minutes and then continued to work on his foreshortening piece. He has one more day of class time with this piece before we start a new perspective piece.
Andrew used class time to continue to add value to the figure he's drawing. We went over ideas for his background as he worked. This project is due at the beginning of next week so he will have to work on some of it as homework.
Andrew used class time to finish his foreshortened figure drawing. I checked his proportions against his reference. Once his proportions were set, he moved on to value.
Andrew had two classes with me today. For both of them, he finished working on his foreshortened figure piece. He had the entire piece outlined. We talked about the proportions of the figure's head, and he remeasured and redrew it. We then went over what he had brainstormed for his concentration and how this piece will fit into that.
Andrew started off class with a sketch in his sketchbook that he started at home. He then worked on sketching out his new assignment. We began to cover foreshortening of the figure and how to use your pencil as a tool to get the proper angles of the figure. Foreshortening is a harder skill to learn so we took some time to measure out the figure. This will also be Andrew’s largest piece he’s every drawn so scaling up the figure is something we worked on as well.
