This morning, Atticus and I continued to work on the representing rational numbers on number lines unit. We reviewed and corrected last night's homework, focusing on how to name positive and negative fractions or decimals on a number line. Then, Atticus related the concepts from the lesson to real-world problem-solving scenarios. For homework, he was assigned 10 problems from a mental minute review.
Atticus participated in class discussion identifying examples of the dehumanizing conditions within the dystopian society. We especially focused on the society's efforts to eliminate emotional attachments and the use of "pills" to quash longing. We then completed revising Atticus' test essay followed by an examination of how and why the redrafted essay was a significant improvement over his original test essay.
Today's lesson focused on an archeologist dig at the home of George Washington. Atticus read a passage and watched video clips about artifacts found at the historical site of George Washington's boyhood home. Atticus participated in class discussions.

Today, we learned the vocabulary words observation, theory, principle, unit and atom. We wrote the words and definitions on cards, colored them, illustrated them, then cut them out to make flash cards. We wrote example sentences using each vocabulary word.
We began with a quick review of last night's homework on dividing mixed numbers which he did great on. Then, we looked at how to plot rational numbers on horizontal or vertical number lines. Atticus wrote the fraction or decimal of number line points, plotted points on numbers lines, and ordered groups of fractions and decimals in order. When needed Atticus changed fractions to decimals or decimals to fractions to help determine their order. He was assigned the lesson's practice and problem-solving questions for homework.
Today's lesson focused on ancient hunters and gatherers. Atticus read passages about early man's hunting and gathering for survival. Atticus participated in class discussions.
