Today, Atticus and I discussed the importance of returning his homework every day. We agree that when we return to school, he will be given an incomplete for work forgotten. Our lesson focused on absolute value, the distance a number is from 0 on a number line. Atticus found the absolute value of numbers and compared the absolute values of number pairs. For homework, Atticus was assigned the real-world problem-solving questions associated with the lesson.

Noting the author's digression to introduce two anecdotes about families other than the main characters, we first discussed the atypical loss of a child by accident given the meticulous structure of the dystopian society. We further examined the criteria the Elders use for selection of a spouse ,none of which is love. I outlined on the board other examples of devaluing individuality. Last, we completed a vocabulary exercise for chapters 3-5.

Today, we rev We reviewed the three principles of the Cell Theory. We discussed what living things are made of that differentiates them from nonliving things and recorded our evidence in a chart in Unit 1 Ch 1 in our workbook. We read the "Engineering Connection" which discussed light microscopes and electron microscopes. We discussed the different functions and viewed the different images of cells produced from these microscopes.
Atticus opened Adobe Photoshop and InDesign. Atticus gathered a series of images (1 central character and eight manga images) for his cell art project. I worked with Atticus to construct the layout in Adobe InDesign.
