Elements of Drawing
Lesson Outline
Today, Atticus started off class with a fifteen-minute sketch. He was allowed to look up a source image of a character from a manga he reads and draw that. He then got out the carving tools and set up his workspace. I did a demonstration review on how to hold the block and the gauge. I marked an area for him to carve out of the background and he practiced making smooth, straight lines with the U gauge. For the second class that I had with Atticus, he carved out the rest of the background on his image. He used the last fifteen minutes for school recess.

Lesson Outline
Atticus and I reviewed and corrected last night's homework in which he chose any 3 review problems from each of our last lessons. Many basic arithmetic errors were made and he was reminded to take his time, not rush, and show all of his work. Then, we began the next lesson on understanding division with fractions. Together we completed problems on dividing whole numbers by fractions and dividing fractions by whole numbers and how to use the relationship between division and multiplication. Models, quick pictures, and equations were used to represent fraction division along with the phrase keep, switch, and flip to solve problems.

Paragraph writing
Lesson Outline
Today's lesson focused on using time sequence connecting words and phrases as a component of a plot summary. Using last night's reading assignment, Atticus first composed a summary topic sentence. On the board, I then placed time sequence connectors such as :" first, next, then, later, last and finally " and discussed their use. We then wrote a series of sentences tracing the plot without using connecting words . After reviewing the menu of connecting words from the board ,Atticus added the connectors to his paragraph to form a cohesive plot summary employing proper grammar and spelling.
