Atticus began with Monday night's homework on adding, subtracting, and multiplying decimals. He is still adjusting to the expectations of our class but we discussed how 10 homework problems need to be attempted each night and without a calculator. He did very well with these homework problems and only needed me for reassurance. Then, we began a lesson on dividing whole numbers and decimals. Together, we completed an example problem on long division with whole numbers and remainders, division with remainders as decimals, division with a decimal dividend, and division with a decimal dividend and divisor. We will spend more time on this lesson tomorrow.

Lesson Outline
As Atticus was experiencing some organizational challenges, we used the session to address organization and study skills. I first provided Atticus with a planner and discussed its practical use and the need to check his planner each day before leaving school to make sure he brings his homework materials home. We then placed tonight's assignment in the planner. Next, as I postponed today's test, we addressed study skills and how to prepare for an English test by reviewing notes, the study guide, and the text. We collectively began studying for tomorrow's test .

Life Science - Gardening Log and Pollinators
Lesson Outline
Today, Atticus and I finished up our pollinators unit. We reviewed the reproductive anatomy of a flower and discussed the purpose of pollination. We completed a creative project where he drew a picture of a bee pollinating a flower, which included labeling the reproductive anatomy of a flower. We then added sensory elements to our project by gluing "pollen" (cornmeal) to the stamens and bee body/feet, and gluing seeds (sunflower seeds) to the ovaries of the flowers. We then wrote two questions and answered them on sticky notes and stuck them to our project: What important things does pollination help create? What are some different kinds of pollinators?
We also logged our garden observations, and included measurements of our potato sprouts in our logbook.
