I gave Atticus the Graphic Arts Get to Know You form, and I asked him to answer some of the questions so that I have a better understanding of who he is and his interests. We went over some of his answers to the questions. I gave him a sample of the syllabus, and we went over the expectations and goals of the course. Atticus and I began working on the first drawing prompt, the word light.
This morning, Atticus and I spent time getting acquainted. We also reviewed my daily and weekly expectations of our class, including daily class participation, homework completion, and weekly checkpoint assessments. We are both excited to have a great school year.
Today’s class focused on introducing social studies, classroom expectations, and the syllabus scheduled for this semester. Atticus reviewed social studies lessons and activities planned for the semester. Atticus talked about his love for history, Japanese anime, all things Russian, and his favorite activities he and his family enjoyed over the summer.

Atticus reviewed social studies lessons and activities planned for the semester. For our first lesson, we initially reviewed some of the books Atticus read at his prior schools as well as some he would like to read this year. Specifically, Addicus mentioned "Lord of the Flies" which we can definitely add to the syllabus. As our first novel is set in NYC in the Metropolitan Museum of Art and as Addicus indicated he had visited this museum, we discussed the exhibits in the museum as well as the Italian Renaissance. We then clarified the distinction between fiction and non-fiction and discussed examples of each.
Today Atticus and I got to know each other by talking about what we will be learning in 6th grade Life Science while we completed a back-to-school gardening activity. In the gardening activity, we cut up potatoes that had sprouted eyes and planted them in a bin of homemade, local soil. We discussed how we will tend to the garden daily and record our observations about the weather and garden growth in a gardening logbook. We briefly discussed that we will be covering a variety of life science topics in our Inspire Science curriculum, to include a workbook and online learning component with virtual labs and in-person labs.
