Atticus and I took ample time to review and correct last night's homework on estimating percentages which he is struggling to comprehend. Together, we completed practice problems using rounding, compatible numbers, or fraction benchmarks to estimate percentage problems. We will continue to work on estimating while also working on finding the exact percents of numbers. Finally, we discussed how to find the part or the percent of problems using equations and properties of equality. For homework, Atticus was assigned finding percents of numbers.
We explored Salva's moral quandary when he encounters a group of men dying of thirst crossing the desert as there is insufficient water to save the dying men without consequently endangering his welfare. We addressed a similar moral choice the characters in "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" faced i.e whether to risk their lives in order to assist the Jewish population of Poland and Germany during the Nazi regime. As Atticus continues to have some difficulty with his study guide homework , I directed him to specific passages in the novel so that he could complete the assignment . Last, for our writing exercise, we examined how to convert the third person point of view of a passage concerning Nya into a first person narrative. Atticus started this writing exercise in class and will complete it for homework.
Atticus worked on an events time line explaining the sequence of events during the "Harappan," or "Indus Valley Civilization," period. He reflected on the similarities India had with the Egyptian and Mesopotamian civilizations.
This morning, Atticus and I continued to work on estimating to find percentages, which is a concept that he is struggling with. After a review of his homework, we worked on additional problems to help reinforce the lesson. Atticus felt more confident after our lesson and was assigned the quick quiz for homework.
Atticus reviewed and corrected last night's practice and problem-solving homework questions on determining percentages greater than 100 and less than 1. Then we worked on how to find percentages using estimation. Atticus used either rounding, compatible numbers, or fraction equivalents to estimate the percentages of numbers. After completing the lesson's practice questions, Atticus completed the correlating IXL lesson and was assigned the practice and problem-solving for homework.
A piece of paper and a pencil were given to Atticus, and we collaborated to create a character. Our goal was to enhance his comprehension of character design structure.
Today is Atticus' group social studies class where they researched and discussed the contributions of Ancient India. They learned about and practiced the art of yoga.
