I subbed for Atticus today, so we used the time as an extra Social Studies class. Atticus took his Chapter 10 test today. He read about the Trojan Horse. He discussed the events that led up to the battle between the Trojans and the Spartans.

Atticus and I used today's lesson to review the last unit on understanding and using ratio and rate. Together, we reviewed and corrected unit homework questions on generating equivalent ratios and rates, comparing ratios and unit rates, and converting customary and metric units. Then, Atticus used a table of customary and metric equivalents to answer questions on their related units. For homework, Atticus was assigned the readiness assessment to prepare for the next unit on understanding percents.
Atticus completed the lab "Melt Down" which explored the relationship between type of material and thermal energy conductivity. The lab consisted of melting an ice cube over beakers of hot water covered by aluminum foil, cotton and only air. He measured the volumes of ice melted over each material and recorded that data in his science notebook.
Today’s instructional time focused on completing The Batt School’s annual standardized assessments with the mathematics portion being completed this morning. While Atticus was working, he was reminded to take his time and work out each problem on paper.

Atticus was continuously told to work out each problem on paper. If he was to complete the test in a different environment, he would have guessed on a majority of questions.
