Atticus continued reading ‘The Book Thief’ with our comprehension conversation centered on the growing relationship between Leisel and her father, Hans. We also noticed the foreshadowed threat of Hitler’s presence in their lives.
Atticus and I reviewed inversely and directly proportional relationships. We reviewed how mass and type of substance affect thermal energy transfer. He watched Ted Ed about biology. He was not feeling well today.
Today and during the next few sessions, we will be writing an essay on "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas ." I distributed a prompt based on the quote about evil (wrongly) attributed to Edmund Burke .We then reviewed the elements of the essay - introduction , textual support, and conclusion. After discussing the essay subject, Atticus began an essay outline identifying the textual support for his thesis . We explored which characters "see nothing" and which characters "do nothing" and why these actions or inactions support the essay thesis.
Today’s instructional time focused on completing The Batt School’s annual standardized assessments. Atticus was reminded to take his time, not guess his answers using mental math, and work out each problem on paper.
