Atticus and I reviewed and corrected the practice and problem solving questions from last night's homework on understanding rates and unit rates. Then, he continued working on the lesson's real world application problems. Finally, Atticus began the lesson's quick quiz that he will complete on Monday. Additional practice problems were assigned for homework.
Atticus read, discussed and took notes on important facts about an article on modern day Israel. Then he wrote a summary of what he discovered about Israel.
Today's lesson focused on the difference between a ratio and a rate. Atticus and I solved examples on finding equivalent rates using ratio tables and multiplying both terms of rates by the same number to find equivalent rates. We also compared quantities and found unit rates to solve problems. Atticus was assigned some of the lesson's practice and problem-solving questions for homework and we will complete the remainder tomorrow.
As Atticus is encountering some reading comprehension challenges, we used today's session to review and to rewrite his homework study guide answers. By spending time in class to study the text, Atticus was able to better understand the characters and to successfully complete his study guide work . We specifically worked on the novel's characterization of Bruno's mother as a sympathetic person who is reluctant to live adjacent to the Auschwitz concentration camp. I provided instruction on how to formulate a study guide answer and how to support a full sentence response by summarizing an event or passage in the novel.
Atticus read a reading comprehension article about the Ancient Israelites focusing on the Jewish faith, Seder foods, Hebrew writing, and the Wailing wall. As he read the article, he learned how to take notes, extrapolate information pertaining to the story, and write a summary.
