7-1 Adding and Subtracting Polynomials – We learned that a polynomial is a monomial or the sum or differences of two or more monomials. Polynomials can be added or subtracted by combining like terms. Polynomials are closed under addition or subtraction similar to integers.

Today we watched an explanatory video of the definite and indefinite articles, to reinforce what we learned yesterday. Then, he completed pages 30 and 31 of the activity notebook.

New topics included cost pricing and market penetration strategies. We examined how pricing plays a key roll in attracting the target demographics.

With the new wealth of the Industrial Revolution the powers of Europe set their sights on conquering new lands. We have already looked at imperialism in Africa. Caught up in the wave of New Imperialism, European countries began to seek formal political control over areas in Asia, as well. Under the influence of New Imperialism, the Dutch flooded areas like Indonesia with Europeans, while also operating in Japan. Russia and Britain fought over the control of Central Asia. To them, this was their ticket to areas like India. Unfortunately for the Russians, they also tried for influence in the Far East, but were defeated by the Japanese in the Russo-Japanese War. China also felt the sting of New Imperialism as Britain forced its opium trade into China's borders. Losing the Opium Wars and having their Boxer Rebellion crushed, China also faced the loss of territory, most famously Hong Kong, to imperialism.

In today's class, we continued our discussion on mutations, talking about the different types of mutations that can occur and what kind of diseases they may cause. We also did an activity where Cameron uses flash cards to sort mutations into their appropriate category (such as putting an example of a point mutation in the point mutations pile).

Current events included an evaluation of natural events impacting the US this year from the end of the Atlantic hurricane season to an increase in tectonic activity causing earthquakes in the Pacific and volcanic eruptions in Hawaii. Congressman Hakeem Jeffries was appointed the first person of color to be the new Speaker of the House and President Biden hosted the first State Dinner of his presidency last night for French President Macron.
