In today's class, we finished our introduction into chemistry, including talking about electron clouds, shells and sub-shells, noble gases and the three different types of bonds. Cameron was very attentive and engaged in our lesson today.
Roman Law, the Pax Romana & Intro. to Julius Caesar
Lesson Outline
The Pax Romana was a period of relative peace for the Roman Empire between 27-180 CE; it witnessed extensive artistic, scientific, and economic progress. We also looked at the beginning of Julius Caesar’s career as he is an interesting Roman figure in ancient history. He is mostly known for his violent assassination by members of the Senate. Caesar helped to form the First Triumvirate, an unofficial alliance, with two other powerful men in ancient Rome: Pompey, and Crassus. While ruling as dictator, Caesar focused on urban reforms that improved the lives of everyday Romans. Caesar had two biological children, but his will stated that his grand-nephew Octavian was to succeed him. Caesar was the first Roman to be made a god, or deified. During the turbulent 1st century BCE, Caesar changed the political landscape of Rome. He paved the way for the mighty Roman Empire.
2-3 Standard Form – We learned to write and graph linear equations in standard form. We discovered that the standard form of a linear equation is helpful for identifying the x- and y-intercepts. These are used to graph the line and aid in understanding the constraints within a real-world context.

Note on MegaWords: since he will be arriving in-person next week, I am going to halt our progress in this curriculum. It is much more effective in-person than it is online. We will supplement with phonological awareness drills and spelling activities involving the o vowel combination patterns until he arrives.
Finish literary devices notes activity; connotations/denotations activity; A Long Way Gone chapter 4 read/discuss; introduce literary abstracts assignment (to go along with A Long Way Gone)-
After reviewing the syllabus and the location in Teams of class files, we discussed how one would define a successful business, including sales, quality of product, customer reputation, and employee treatment. Cameron was great in our conversation!
In today's class, we continued our introduction into chemistry, where we talked about electron clouds, shells and subshells. We will continue our discussion tomorrow, where will be talk about noble gases and how chemistry relates to everyday biology.

While on Teams with Cameron, our call got disconnected and I was unable to reach him after that despite multiple attempts (the calls would not go through). We will finish what we meant to cover tomorrow.
The fertile land of the Italian peninsula provided Rome with all the tools necessary to grow in relative safety until they were prosperous enough to begin their conquests. Although they claimed to be descended from the glorious city of Troy, the city of Rome was likely founded by the Latins, a barbarian tribe who ruled over the city for a century. By the measure of other empires, the Roman Empire rose slowly from central Italy, rising from the shadow of the Etruscans and Latins much like Romulus and Remus rose from the Tiber River. The history of Rome is also a borrowed one, for they adopted many Etruscan, Latin, and specifically Greek religious rites, artistic and architectural tendencies, even the alphabet, they built upon their ancestry. There were differences in the way they ruled, such as the relatively high status women held in Etruscan kingdoms versus the Roman Empire. With Romulus' namesake and the legacy of the first laws he laid down, Rome would prosper, growing into one of the largest influences in history.
Cameron completed a quiz on slope-intercept form of a linear equation.
Point-Slope Form – We learned to write and graph linear equations in point-slope form. We analyzed different forms of a line to interpret the slope and y-intercept of a linear model in the context of data. We learned how to use the point-slope form of a linear equation to write the equation of a line using the slope and any point on the line.
Assignment: Complete the assigned problems for homework.
Greek city-states were a collection of cities that emerged around 500 BCE. The cities of Greece were unique in the ancient world because they did not develop into larger empires Egypt or Rome. Separated by the mountainous geography of mainland Greece, each city-state developed separate cultures with a few similarities. Around 700 BCE, Hellenism, encompassing Greek politics, religion, and culture, remained the essential connection of the city-states. These individual cities fought one another constantly, except when outside invaders like the Persians threatened their way of life in the early 400s BCE. Later, internal Greecian conflicts weakened the mainland, and it fell under the control of the Macedonians by the mid-300s BCE and the Romans only a century later. Thereafter, the Greeks were physically conquered by Rome but continued to impact the world through arts and politics.
