Liam practiced his new spelling words and then wrote them into his spelling notebook. Then he wrote each word 3 times each. He read and discussed a reading comprehension article about Ben Franklin. He answered comprehension questions in writing pertaining to the article. He learned about an acrostic poem, writing the definition into his notebook. Then he wrote an acrostic poem about electricity. He completed an activity on ABC order, a crossword puzzle about Ben Franklin, and a mapping activity identifying facts about Ben Franklin.

Liam took his spelling test and made a 100%. He discussed and wrote his new spelling words into his spelling notebook. He drew a fantastic picture of Ben Franklin. We talked about the acrostic poem he is going to write on Monday about electricity.

Liam researched and discovered that Ben Franklin proved that lightning was electricity. He read and drew about open and closed circuits, and drew a diagram into his notebook. He watched a Brain pop video about Ben Franklin and open and closed circuits.

Liam and I began our session with a calendar activity - identifying the month, day of the week, date, time, weather, and his feelings. Liam then completed a warm-up activity focusing on math skills. Liam completed multiplication practice - receiving a 11/12. Lastly, Liam completed Lesson 6.5 Apply Properties and the Distributive Property - use properties when multiplying to find the area of squares and rectangles - completing guided practice, independent practice, and problem-solving problems.

Today he learned colors and numbers in Spanish. He completed pages 1-5 from Rockalingua.

Lian reviewed his spelling words and looked up their definitions. He wrote a sentence for each spelling word. He will have a spelling test on Friday. He reviewed his new vocabulary words and their definitions and read a story that used all these words in context. The story was about the Mojave Desert. We located the desert on the globe and determined that it was located in 4 states in the United States. He also discovered that the Colorado River flowed through the desert. He learned about the conditions of the desert and how animals have to adapt to live there. He completed a word study activity on words that have silent consonants.

Liam continued to visualize, read, manipulate sounds and spell words with a mix of previously learned affixes and -ci, si, -ti. He wrote a three-sentence story about his computer and read two chapters in ‘Horrible Harry and the Scarlet Scissors.’
