Reading Comprehension Grammar Vocabulary Vowel Sounds ABC Order Story Details
Lesson Outline
We delved into understanding his new vocabulary words and their definitions. He wrote both the words and their meanings into his notebook. We read a story about the importance of voting. He completed several reading comprehension activities demonstrating his understanding of the story, story details, sequence of events, and the author's intent in writing the story. We worked on the different vowel sounds short i, o, and u make. He finished an activity using ABC order.
Liam imaged, read, spelled, and manipulated sounds in complex syllables with -ce, -se, plurals, and past tenses. He completed lesson 11 in his Seeing Stars decoding book, scoring 90% for reading and 100% for spelling. To conclude, we read chapters 2-4 of his Bad Kitty book.
Calendar, Warm-Up Activity, Lesson 1.4, Math Prodigy

Liam and I began our session with a calendar activity - identifying the month, day of the week, date, time, weather, and his feelings. Liam then completed a warm-up activity - completing ten problems focusing on math strategies. Liam then completed Lesson 1.4 How Many in Each Group? completing independent and problem-solving problems by drawing pictures to solve division equations.
Reading Comprehension Vocabulary Simile Historical Fiction Expository Text Vowel Recgnition
Lesson Outline
Liam completed a historical fiction story about a Jewish family that immigrated to America. We discussed characters, theme, plot, sequence of event, and made predictions. He completed comprehension questions about the story, and searched for the similes in the story. He read an expository story about Ellis Island, and we discussed how immigrants were treated and tested when they got to America. He answered comprehension questions about this story. We compared the two stories and talked about how and why they were different, yet similar. We discussed short vowel words and he completed several activities demonstrating his knowledge of vowel sounds.
Liam imaged, read, spelled, and manipulated sounds in complex past tense syllables and syllables ending in -ce and -se. He completed the Seeing Stars workbook lesson 3-10. To conclude, we read chapter 1 in ‘Bad Kitty Gets a Bath'.
Calendar, Warm-Up Activity, Lesson 1.3 and Lesson 1.4

Liam and I began our session with a calendar activity - identifying the month, day of the week, date, time, weather, and his feelings. Liam then completed a warm-up activity focusing on math strategies. Liam then completed Lesson 1.3 - Arrays and Properties, completing independent and problem-solving problems. Liam wrote lesson 1.4 vocabulary in his math journal. Liam began Lesson 1.4 - Division: How many in each group?, completing guided practice problems. Lastly, Liam completed fifteen minutes on Math Prodigy - adding three by three-digit numbers using decomposition and multiplication fluency.
Liam imaged, read, spelled, and manipulated sounds in complex syllables incorporating past tenses with doubling to keep the vowel short. (3-3, cards 1-14) He completed lesson 9 in his decoding workbook and read nine pages in ‘Bad Kitty Gets a Bath.’

Lesson Outline
We began today by reviewing the rule for a vowel followed by a magic e. He also reviewed the proper spelling of words when adding ing or ed. He successfully completed an activity demonstrating his knowledge of both rules. We explored his 8 new vocabulary words and their meanings. He wrote both the words and their meanings into his notebook. He used his glossary skills to look up their meanings. He then read a new story, "Sailing to America." We delved into the characters, story details, sequence of
events, and predicting what would happen next. As we read the story,we looked for the simile. After he found it, he wrote it in his notebook along with the definition of a simile.
Liam read a reading comprehension story about bats. He labeled a diagram of a bat's body parts. He answered comprehension questions in writing about pertinent questions about bats. We watched a bat video that explained in detail about echolocation. He learned that bats are mammals just like people.

Lesson Outline
Liam read another Folktake, "Anansi Learns a Lesson." We discussed in detail the characters, and how this story was similar to the folktale we read on Monday. We determined that both had the same theme, "If you work together you can solve problems." He explained how Anansi was a bully like the rattlesnake. He learned that in both stories the bullies are taught lesson on how to be better friends. In today's story the turtle and the fish taught Anansi a lesson by treating him to some of his own bad behavior. He completed an activity on antonyms by selecting vocabulary words from the story and matching them with words that mean the opposite.
