Liam opened Adobe Illustrator, and he created a 5"x5" template for us to work on. Liam created a circle, and I showed him how to generate text on a curve when using the text tool. Liam imported an image of a turtle in between his text areas. Liam chose the colors for both the rings and text in his image.

Liam was given a narrative to read and edit using transitional phrases to connect his thoughts. We examined different ways to organize the paragraphs and link ideas together in a way that proved interesting and logical to the reader.

Today we explored the setting of a story. Liam watched a Linktivity that explained setting. He then had a chance to practice identifying the setting in three different short stories, based on the titles, context clues, dialogue, and pictures.

Liam completed his STEM Robot. He explained how the Robot works by defining an open and closed circuit. He drew an example of an open and closed circuit in his science notebook.

Liam completed his math drills for multiplication and division. He multiplied 1 digit numbers by 3 digit numbers. He completed an activity using single digit division with remainders.

Today Liam learned how to plan and create an animated greeting card. He said he wanted to make one for me for my birthday:)

Liam completed his spinning robot. He is demonstrating his knowledge of an open and a closed circuit, and how to follow written directions.

Liam completed several activities on his multiplication and division math drills, comparing mixed numbers, and adding mixed numbers with like denominators.

Today, I showed Liam how to interact with a text to find deeper meaning. He identified who, what, when, and where in the text. Initially, I used a Lincoln Loud story as an example, then we read another short piece of text so that he could apply what he learned. We then went on to discuss metaphors and similies. Though Liam struggles with this concept, he was beginning to understand it in the text that we read.

I had typed up the information that Liam had provided me on Tuesday explaining his favorite show. He was to recap the main plot and recall the characteristics and their main personality traits. I asked Liam to read it to note any changes or corrections. Liam spotted a spelling error in one of the character's names. As he read, I noted and explained the grammar used and queried him on ways to make the details connect to one another seamlessly. I introduced Liam to the term 'transitional phrases' and explained it as words or phrases used to link sentences together smoothly and highlight how ideas relate to one another; I also offered examples to help him connect the descriptions of the characters in a more fluent manner. Liam was asked to embellish on a few of his descriptions and to vary the use of words to make his story more interesting. We made a list of synonyms for some of his word choices before adjourning for recess.
